Uncle Colin's Card & tag!

Good Sunday Morning lovely friends,
I just wanted to finish Uncle Colin's birthday package, so we have this amazing card and tag created by Diane.
It looks like Diane has used several different techniques on this card, I love the woodpecker , the effect of the hills in the background and the birds flying off into the distance. This card together with the fabulous cake from yesterday, in my opinion make Uncle Colin a very lucky man.
Hopefully Diane will be in later to tell us how she created this amazing scene.
It was so lovely to have Cameeli visit us yesterday, such sad news about her craft room, I hope that things work out right with insurance etc, that way will see her on a shopping spree at Ally Pally!
Well this time next week it will be Easter Sunday, just where is this year disappearing to?
The only good thing about this is it will soon be OCTOBER! Have you all got your rooms booked?
I will just remind everybody and inform those that didn't read Steph's post yesterday about the Magnetic sheets that are printable and good enough to store your dies on too, they are from poundland & poundworld, none of you smart Alec's ask what the price is, right,! They are a pack of two! Thank you Steph, I think from this day forward we should have a Bargain feature, any if you that find a great deal or bargain on any craft item anywhere, just let us know and we can feature it!
What do you think, I know that we are all bargain hunters at heart!
Let me know what you think below, as always I love reading your comments.
I hope you all have a lovely Sunday, what ever you are doing, looking at the weather I don't think we will be gardening though!
Love & hugs

  1. Good morning Sandra and all, you coffee shop, ladies.
Think I might be first in ....... that is if this actually prints and does not go off into Cybre Space.
Will go get things ready, Urn on, cups set up, bread and crumpets open. Will just boil a wee drop water in the kettle for my cuppa!!
MAUREEN:- your a winner on Sue's Blog .......Lucky Lady congratulations.
DIANE:- your card and Tag are so beautiful. Love, love, love the beautiful scene, colours and the Woodpecker so wonderfully coloured.
Nothing much on the cards here for today, however it is still early so you never know.
I am leaving my usual basket of hugs by the door for all who are ill, in pain or just a little bit down. Please take as many as you need to help.
Washed my cup, cleared the crumbs, money in the pot.
    Will be back later

    Morning one and all
Just thought I'd better pop in now as I might not get a chance later on.
Well Diane your card and tag are just wonderful. I love your Woodpecker and cannot wait to see how you created such a beauty.
We've gone back to winter this morning never mind putting the clocks forward - hope you all remembered. We have rain/winds and it's cold so will have to think carefully re travel clothes for tomorrow. Just have the overnight stuff and meds to sort and then hopefully have a few hours feet up and an early night.
If I can get signals OK I shall be popping via cyber space to keep up with all the news. So all please take care; stay safe and extra hugs are in the basket for all in need.
Once again thank you for all your kind comments yesterday; they really are appreciated and especially so because you're all fantastic crafters.

  4. Morning Ladies

Been up for a while and reading all yesterday's comments. Had quite a laugh over some of them-just what the doctor ordered!

Todays card & tag are such beautiful works of art, stunning.

After all the housework is done (one hour less to work) I'm planning on completing a card/book to go over to Florida as hubbys sister in law is expecting a baby boy-due 12th May. Her second baby which is great news as she is an older Mum and thought her first was going to be her only child. She's a fantastic step-mum to two older children who live with them over half the week. We Facetime them every few weeks which is a great way to keep in touch. The older two have just been told we're going over to see them in September so they were excited last week when we Facetimed.

Might have to plan some craft shopping as dies etc are such bargain prices in the USA.

Right, best move as I'm still in my dressing gown.

Hope you manage to get lots of your project done today.
When I was in Florida last year I came home with very little. The Dies were few and far between and I had most of what they had. HobbyLobby had the best selection of goodies that time. Usually it's Michaels or Joann's.
      Have a good crafty day

hope you are doing alright. I'm going to NY in Sept. and have also thought about getting some bargains while being there, however if you looking around on some of the on-line sites that's surprisingly not much difference in price, will still take an empty bag if a sale on lol Take care Maria xx

    1. Hi Mrs B
Thank you for your kind comments. All the stamps are from Clarity. I got them in a sale so they were all unmounted so quite reasonable. Their stamps are lovely and give a really clear image and I don't seem to get smudges from the edges either. I much prefer clear stamps as you can see where you are going with them and I get in a muddle when I use other stamps! It is worth paying the extra for good quality stamps, they seem to stamp so much better don't they. Enjoy your day.

  6. GM everyone,

I don't think I will be gardening either Sandra, too wet, wild and windy for me. Not only that, I woke up this morning with pains down my left leg, heel and bottom. Not only has Arthur Ritis struck but also Miss Sciatica. Damn, just when I was beginning to think I am Wonder Woman with this new lease of life! Oh well I suppose I'd better have a quiet crafty day? Hip hip hooray! No guilt trips there but come tomorrow, desk is here and the final reveal is on the cards, if I could only find my camera. It is somewhere amongst my clutter.

Colin's card and tag, Diane, you certainly have made a treasure, I love the perspective of the hills and trees, whilst your woodpecker is so lifelike. Can't wait for the lowdown on your techniques.

Congratulations to my dear heart, Maureen, on winning SW comment game!!! You will be absolutely thrilled with your prize.
The (((hug))) basket has been filled up so please help yourselves to a couple or two.
I've washed my cup and plate, did so enjoy the hot, buttery crumpets this morning, still in my PJ's so I think I'd better get dressed now. I don't think B&Q staff will be much impressed at the sight of me all bedraggled.

    1. Oh Cheryl not good with those two coming to pay a visit, here I go. Do you take calcium tablets? If so try taking calcium and magnesium ones or at least get a magnesium one to go with your calcium. It was the best thing Anna's piano told me to do over three years ago. I suffered with scatica like you hip leg ankle with in 7-10 days I could feel the difference, when I feel it going to play up I increase my two to three tablets but that doesn't happen very often. Also cut out wholemeal bread, pasta etc as that can trigger the Arthur Ritis ( love that way of saying it) Have you a tens machine if so get it on. Sorry working for a pain consultant all these years, I get my instructions. Hazel x

    2. Oh Cheryl,
I suffer with Miss Sci Atica, she is a cow! Mine is down to the physical changes at the bottom of my spine due to always having a leg length difference, therefore the whole of my pelvis is tilted too! It is so painful, you have my full sympathy, I take morphine 5-6 times daily and even that doesn't help!
I hope you get some relief, were you overdoing things yesterday ?

    4. Well hello, it's me again.
Yes, I have to take calcium and vitamin D ( combined) tablets for the Osteoporosis, I'll ask Doctor re the Magnesium. Thanks for the tip Hazel. Never heard of a talking piano though. Is it New Age Medicine? lol
Also take Zapain for Arthur Ritis, they are the strongest tablets I can take, was taken off Paracetamol and Ibuprofen because I had acid reflux every time I took them. I don't eat much carbohydrates, bread rice etc as that also causes me reflux.
Poor you Sandra, having to take morphine that often, I can't begin to imagine your constant pain. And yes, I probably was overdoing it yesterday. I can't keep expecting Jamie to pop over every other day to help out, he's a lovely lad and I really do appreciate all that he does do. It will be lovely though when Robin has finished the Outage at Hinkley Point, he's been working 12 and 10 hour shifts and just goes straight home to bed.
Microwave has pinged so onto my lunch, will pop in to chat later.

Did you know that you should take calcium just before you go to sleep at night as basically it is absorbed so much better (can't remember the full details now) I was told that by my specialist many years ago. He is still campaigning to get that info put onto the dosage details on all calcium packaging!

You know this weather is doing my head in, the cold is going right through to the bones and I got plenty of padding . I hope everyone with 'stupid' pain will cope today. If you have a woodpecker, in a while you will have the "whole" family visiting. We have had them in our garden for quite a few years. It starts with Dad and Mum then it is so wonderful when the babies come. I spend hours watching them and the other birds. Whe are keeping an eye on the sheep just now as well .... hoping to see the lambs very soon. Not our sheep but our neighbours.

  16. Oh Ladies,
How could I doubt you and think you were winding me up. My name is there but when I was reading the comments I nearly choked on my liquorice (only kidding, a bit soon even for me). Janet congratulated MURIEL and I could hear everyone saying Muriel, Muriel, who the hell is Muriel!!! So I explained in my post that it was a nickname. I had a good laugh at that.
Cheryl love, thank you for your lovely post.
Diane - enjoy your Harry cuddles - there's nothing like it is there? Zoe was sitting on my knee after school on Friday (and after the sweet shop, so we were all very happy, or should that read hyper!) and she was stroking my cheek. I told her that I once had lovely smooth skin like her when I was young and she said "But Grandma, I love your wrinkly skin". So I heard the word love and was lifted up, then I heard wrinkly and I was back on ground ha ha. She is known in the family as Zoe two portions, or Zoe tell it how it is!!!!
Margaret, how are you today, I'll be careful not to trip over your basket, but I've taken a hug from it. You and Littlelamb do amazingly well to type your posts. Brenda, how is your wrist now? How is the physio going?
I'd better go to do some vacuuming upstairs, the confetti has been trailed all over and the carpet in our bedroom is dark blue, so the smallest die cut shows up immediately. It's an everyday job.
    See you all later.

Must say it's a lot better than it was and leaving the splint off when I am indoors. Congratulations on winning a prize from Sue Wilson today.

  18. Hi Sandra and all the lovely coffee shop ladies.
Oh what a lovely surprise to see my card and tag today and thank you for all the kind comments. The stamps I have used, the woodpecker and the happy birthday and numbers are all Clarity ones. I managed to get them all in a sale un mounted and have been waiting for the opportunity to use the woodpecker. I bought it with my uncle and his sons in mind as they are very keen bird watchers. I had a good look on the internet before colouring it in as I knew they would be quite picky with the colours! I coloured it in with pro markers. The happy birthday stamp is lovely and always stamps so cleanly. The numbers are from the letterbox kit, you get the squares and ovals and the individual letters and numbers so if you are a bit wonky it doesn't matter! I drew the tree in by hand and had a stamp for the little trees which doubled as a branch. To get the colour in the trees I just dotted different colour pro markers over the branches. I invested in the hills masks because I'm rubbish at tearing paper. I've got the Clarity brushes so I used them instead of a brayer. I started with lettuce adirondack and added expresso for depth then wiped the colour off the mask with a make up sponge (pound land!) to create a clean edge. The sky is stream and denim adirondack just brushed over using the brushes again and a moon mask. I drew in some little v shapes for birds with a micron pen. When I trimmed the card down I had a hill bit left which was too nice to throw away so I turned it into a tag to go with his garden voucher. I have been on a Barbara workshop and learnt a lot, she is a genuinely lovely person, I have also picked up hints and tips from watching her on TV too. One last tip, after I finished colouring the woodpecker in I outlined it in pastel blue pro marker and it gives depth to the picture and makes it 3d. I haven't made a Barbara card for ages as I've been using my dies so it was lovely to do something different for a change. Uncles sight isn't good these days but he was able to see the picture and put the card in pride of place with his family ones. I'm very close to my auntie and uncle, their boys are close in age to my sister and I so we spent a lot of time together as children. I have also stayed with them whilst house hunting. To make matters confusing my aunt was my mums cousin and she married my dad's brother so we are cousins as well as aunt which makes us even closer and them even more special to me.
Well this hour is really making today very odd, nothing has been done yet and it's lunchtime already!!!
I will pop back later to see what mischief is afoot and tell you about my afternoon tea!
See you later and thank you for showing my things Sandra.

Although as yet ive not been able to carry on with the 50th birthday card as my left hand, particular the 'chicken leg' part of our thumb's which meets the wrist was like a boxing glove when I woke up at 5am and so dam painful, so holding the e-bosser plates was just impossible, its still SO uncomfortable, but im now thinking some craft excercise will help !
This card and tag is fantastic, the blending of inks is just perfect, blimey, such an artistic clever bunch of ladies here, bet you cant wait to get to Brum ?
Maureen hon - congrats on being chosen a comment winner, I love my prize and im sure you will too.
Janet - have a safe trip love. I really hope the weather changes for your crossing. As we've all read about your Friday treat, we will expect to see some photo's of these pastries we read about on Sue's blog. Talking of our lovely Sue, have you thought about dropping her an email asking the best craft shops in Florida Michelle ? A dear friend of mine is going to FL and just happened to mention it to Sue when emailing her about something else, Sue's reply was - what a shame they wasn't there at the same time or they could meet for coffee and do some craft shopping together... OMBG can you imagin THAT ? Id be like a stupid teenager... Getting all stupid and tearful over meeting my idol lol I need to get a grip at my age lol !
Dont you just LOVE Sue's card ? I adore simple cards like that. Talking of which, im only too happy to cut some camelia dies for anyone that hasn't got that die yet, I believe its like looking for hen's teeth !

  22. Well, if I say so myself (and I think I'll have to), I make gorgeous crusty dumplings. Mince and dumpling dinner, just the thing for a wet, windy, cold day today - although the sun is shining at the moment, the rain will be back in no time.
I've had another good laugh at your comments, although it's not nice to be cruel to a defenceless, old woman. I'll send George around to "help" you all and then you'll be sorry !!!! lol.
I think after that huge lunch I'll have a nice latte and a slice of lemon cake. No sit still everyone, you all look knackered, I'll get it myself and put the money in the pot.
Woe, woe and thrice woe, I've lost one of my new stamps on the floor of my little room, so it looks as though I'll have to have a blitz and tidy it up. Well the 4" square that I'm crafting on is getting a tiny bit small. How come my desk will be absolutely clear and two days later I'm working on a bit smaller than a hankie (and not one that's been in my knickers!)
Janet, safe journey and don't forget to have a pastry or three for me. Do you go by ferry or chunnel?
Sandra, what a good idea to have a "thumbs up" if there are any bargains to had anywhere. We have all benefited from being told about the Works - but I can't remember who told us about the pads. Oh, we are back to knickers!!!
Finished my coffee and cake, I've put the dishes in the dishwasher and am going to see if I can find the stamp. I suppose I'll have to try to make a bit space too!

  23. Good afternoon my lovely Sandra and coffee shopper friends,
OH Diane, your card and tag for Uncle Colins birthday is exquisite without a word of a lie flower. What a fantastic job you have made of the background as well as the fore. You have managed to capture that woodpecker brilliantly and he looks so very realistic. In looking at the superb job you have done of this masterpiece makes me wonder when you are going to set up lessons for others as with the talent that you most certainly have it would be lovely for others to gain some of that incredible knowledge and work on the skills do make such a mini masterpiece. The other cards of Uncle Colins i can see coming down but this might just end up in a frame on the wall(if there was any justice it would). I am so glad that you gave him a birthday to remember and we can all see the pride he will have telling others of his perfect day.
Well you know i think i really will need to get the eyes seen to as they are reading all sorts of weird and wonderful words today. For B&Q i seen barbeque, Michele's doing a car boot over in Florida in her dressing gown. A darn long way to go to do a car boot as far as i can see and i thought they did garage sales any way? We have a diagnosing piano who has definitely lived too long in a medical household that even the furniture is getting in on the act. Patricia's sitting around in her dressing gown at 8 o'clock at night when everyone else is still trying to cope with loosing an hours sleep. Cheryl has got horrible visitors at the moment and well i think they should just take their unwanted gifts back with them from where they came. But on a cheerier note Maureen is taking Maria for dinner, now whether the people giving the dinner know this or not is a different matter but isn't that nice to share like that.
Ok i am going to behave myself now, i took the sheets, nets, curtains, pillows, duvets, cushions and soft toys down to the cash for clothes place because they go to various charities. Rory had said to me before going in if we could get a McFlurry and i said that as i didn't have my purse with me we could use some of the money from the clothes place. Well once they had taken out the duvets, toys, cushions, pillows i came away with the princely sum of .....£3.70. See now i can see you are all in awe of my grand prize money, so was Kirsten. She asked me if i had made enough to get her a changing table, ha ha ha ha. Campbell took the other stuff down to the recycling center as they have lots of different places that they sort stuff out to so at least it will be going to do some good some where but i had to work out whether i had enough to get Rory the promised ice cream after our big haul. It's just as well i can see the funny side of things and that i am not banking on ever being a millionaire as i can see a few hurdles in my path on my chosen course of pathway.
Sandra i will have a latte please in my Tommy Tippee cup as i have the shakes and wobbles back again so i will go across to my little corner with my basket of hugs...watch as some of them have spilled out across the floor. It's those little wriggly ones that keep seeing people and think they should be picked instead of waiting their turn. Right thats me given them a telling off to behave otherwise they wont be picked so i shall sit and do my knitting,
    Love and crafty hugs

The amount of stuff we had to give away when clearing out my mum and dad's house was shocking. We tried to find good homes for a lot of stuff, I started a bottom drawer for my friend Jane- she says she always remembers my mum and dad fondly when she uses her lemon squeezer as it belonged to them. I hope Rory enjoyed his ice cream. Take care love Diane xxx

  32. Ok,, I admit defeat.
I found the stamp almost immediately, on the opposite side of the room where I dropped it, but being the good girl that I am I thought - in for a penny, in for a pound, and got the step stool from downstairs. Up I went to the top shelf of the shelving unit in the alcove (Ikea) and got the 12" x 12" boxes of scrapbook paper and card down, and moved them over to the other side of the room on to the top of the drawer units. I was up and down that step stool more times than
Janice's granny's red drawers. Now I want to know why I did that. I didn't gain anything, it doesn't look any better, and in fact they were handier to get to where they were originally. So tomorrow, I'll move everything back!!!
Now I am dog tired going up and down, the desk is still covered - in fact even more so - but I did get the floor hoovered and threw out 3 empty boxes, but I might rescue them, because you never know!!!
That is an exercise in wasting two hours, tiring oneself out, and having to redo it all again another day. How stupid am I - no please don't answer that.
Norah, I enjoyed your summary of the day's proceedings. You got it all in a nutshell - clever you, and I was wondering if you will let your £3.70 change your lifestyle, or if you will still visit us in Sandra's cafe. Did Rory get his ice cream?
I hope your shakes and wobbles calm down, and that your Tommy Tippee cup does the trick. I just love your wiggly hugs that go seeking people, they are so cute!!
My word, I've just seen the time, He who should be avoided will be coming up soon and that will be that.
I'll pop in just before I have to turn off the light for himself.

  33. Hello Ladies
MAUREEN You made me laugh about crafting on a space no bigger than a hankie I clear my table and think A must keep it that way and .... Yes it's back to a mess within hours and as to the floor! I don't know what colour the Lino is anymore! Salsa was great fun meeting old friends and the odd dance or three The knees survived and the cramp seems to be at bay but I'll definitely invest in some calcium/magnesium if diabetic nurse approves Some of you seem to be able to reply straight away How does that work Are you permanently in the coffee shop Does the coffee machine ping when a message/reply comes in???

  36. Helooooo,
I am getting later and later. Those clocks going forward have a lot to answer for.
Have just finished reading all the comments and replied to most along the way, it was easier than trying to remember everything.
Diane your card is amazing. I think I have done well if I manage to stamp a sentiment well. You can stamp, colour, draw and design, wow. Your woodpecker is amazing, however I really have a thing about them, and not a good thing either. A few years ago one nearly killed my husband and try as I might I don't like them very much anymore.
Myra, I am so glad you have let that cat out. Who let it in in the first place! Horrid things, they make me sneeze and they leave puddles all over the place. Or was that Muriel doing that. And no before you ask I am not allergic to Muriel.

  37. Hi Karen,
I just keep popping in to see if anyone is around. It's usually the evening when I have the time in between crafting or faffing around! George tends to watch sci-fi films or sport, so I come upstairs where I can please myself.
I'm in school volunteering tomorrow and we are having a Teddy Bear's picnic in the Forest School in the afternoon so I hope it keeps fine, we can wrap up warm but if it's wet we'll have to have it in the school hall. The class (7 to 8 year olds) is going to cook in the pizza oven if we are outside, but it won't be pizza!!
I've taken some photos of the Forest School and if Rachel will put them on the computer for me, I'll post some. It's actually part of the school grounds which is joined to a large municipal park.
Well he who must be avoided is here and I suppose I'd better put off the light and let him get some sleep. He doesn't sleep well - even though I dop him with a rubber mallet!!!
Patricia, I have tried to put a photo of myself on the Rogues Gallery at the top of Sandra's blog, but it won't do it. I do feel that I should pre-warn people before I meet them, particularly you and Hazel. Just think of a 5'2" (I've shrunk an inch) old woman who looks a bit like Whistler's mother and you won't be far wrong, and I'm being kind to myself!!!
Well, I see the dishwasher on but there's a few bottles lying around, I'll get rid of them before Norah sees and close up.
    Night, night all.

    1. Evening Maureen,
Have you got over the shock of winning yet? I hope you didn't ruin anymore of these 'tenners', were the mixed with fivers too? I reckon you wear 'fivers' instead of 'tenners' if you wear those thong things(cheese cutters)!
You still haven't finished for Easter up there then? Do you finish Thursday and have 2 weeks?
You could email me a photo, maybe we all should make 'members Badges' for our vacation!
I have had to get another recycling box from the council as the other one was over flowing with bottles!
I'll have to be getting a licence next!
Hope you have had a good weekend
      Love

Anyway - Hope you all have a lovely sleep, Sweet dreams

  39. No Karen nothing pings, just have to keep looking back in at this time of night you can read the comments, reply check its there( many go into cyber space) if you are lucky and your comment hasn't , you will see 3-4 others have commented so you start again answering them, never stops till we all give up and go to bed. Maria, Saba and Myra are the night owls. Poor Maria finds it hard to sleep some nights, so we worry she will get locked in. Myra your journey to meet Saba will be worth it, Patricia and I will have about an hours travel but on back roads that if we lucky we might get up to 50mph. But it will be worth it too. Hazel x

    1. Muriel, I took Oliver to Church this morning and we received our Palm cross and took communion. First off he wanted to know why he didn't get the bread and wine too, then proceeded to turn his cross around and tell people he had got a sword to play with. Don't think I'll take him next week!!

  44. Good evening ladies,
Well another busy day here! Racing round trying to find that lost hour !
Lovely to have all my chicks in the nest today, amazing how the attraction of a roast beef dinner brings them home .
It is our Soph's choice for movie night tonight, she has chosen a film called Divergent! Very strange!
I preferred last nights movie that had the very attractive Channing Tatum in, he makes any film watchable, even White House Down!
Well I must get back to the movie,
    Have fun,
    Hugs

  45. Well looks as if I am the last one here and everyone else has gone home. Sympathy card is part done. Cut the flowers on the piece of card and embossed the ones on the backing. Now have to put it together tomorrow. Also cut out the XCut gift bag and will put that together tomorrow. GC was behaving itself tonight. Perhaps it heard me threatening to buy the Teal one. Well Patrica I met Sandra, Sue and Pat at Farnborough and that wasn't scary and I am usually scared of meeting new people. Also met a lot of the Sheenies at Ally Pally a few times. Enjoy yourselves when you meet. Well I will just turn out the light and lock up. Looks as if someone has already tidied up. See you all tomorrow.

  46. How nice it's sound for you up North to meet up too and we down South will meet at AP and then we ,most of us meet at the retreat. I love having something to look forward too . How come it is so wet on the floor in here tonight, Mareeeen ! what have you been up to you lucky lady winning a Sue's card !
Lynda I hope you had a bundles of hugs from cutie Harry today and Mrs B are you feeling any better, I think we all would like to see a picture of baby ? so sorry but has forgotten his name :-( I'm sure he is getting bigger every time you see him. So many of you have grand children ans as they are Easter break you will see them more, lol I'm a bit envious . I used to look after some of the neighbours little one's if the parent wanted go out for the night or day sometimes when they had some kind of appointments, they are now older and these days they can stay home alone, I miss does times but they know if they need anything I'm just across the road. How do this cat belong too ? and why was that a talking piano around ? and why is little Oliver sitting in Norah's corner and swigging from the wine bottle that got left behind ? Going now, will try the bed for some shut eye or I might swim in a zigzag tomorrow, done it again, of course I mean later today and then the weekly shop to do, is it me or did this week go very quick, the Month ? !
God Natt my friends, see you later pm. Have a nice morning! I take the cat with me so I got something to cuddle while OH laying snoring next to us lol
    Warm hugs Maria xx
