Your Background Challenge cards

Good Sunday Morning Ladies,

We have some beautiful backgrounds entered for this weeks Challenge, so I will jump straight into them....

Now I'm guessing that our Lynda liked this challenge, what do you reckon?? An amazing 7 cards is proof of that, a lot of different backgrounds to, those last two with the Pixie Powders are my favourites, such bright, beautiful colours in both the background and the Butterflies and Dragonflies.

No.1 Silver Polished Silk

No.2 Cosmic shimmer paints with cling film put over top to give texture.

No.3 'Sloppy' Shaving Foam Technique

No.4  Cosmic shimmer paints putting bubble wrap over & pushing onto it.

No.5 Cosmic Shimmer paints with Bubble Wrap

No.6 & 7 Both Pixie Powder Backgrounds.

Lynda, what can I say? thank you so, so much for making so many amazing cards for our Challenge this week I am so grateful.  xxx

Janet has designed two fantastic 'Man' cards for our 'Background Challenge' this week.

Both of these cards were created by Janet using the Sheena Douglass 'Remember When' stencils.

I love both of your designs Janet, stencils are not something I would think of using but create perfect backgrounds, especially for men.

Thank you so much my lovely, I imagine you have had a million other things on your mind this week with all the decorating and home improvements you have going on, I hope the stair carpet got laid ok yesterday and you can tick another job off the list! xxx

Karen has also blown me away this week with an incredible 5 challenge cards, all so different too...

Karen's first card is a 'Make & Take' she did at Stamperama last weekend, I think it's so unusual and I love it'
The second card is Karen's version of the same card using Distress Oxides instead of their paints, the die is from a company called Gummiapan.

Karen's third card is a wedding card that she made for her Ex boss, here is the description:

The background is from JL’s sandwich box die set cut on some gorgeous silver pearl 120gsm paper from A Crafty Place last Sunday It prints and cuts like a dream
Makes beautiful inserts too"

Karen's 5th card is one that Karen has made for her Dad, this card has an embossed background, I willadd Karen's Description below.....
Here’s a card I made for my dad It’s the dry embossed background I was sending but it does look a little lost against the “splatter” pattern which is Serif. Even though I say it myself the scarf looks pretty good in the photo heehee!

Thank you so much Karen, 5 cards is an amazing acheivement given that you, like Michele work all week.  I am so grateful to you xxx

Val has used a really pretty mask to create the background for that gorgeous Bunny & Chick image, I love how the pattern goes to the simple check as it gets close to the central focal point.
Val I know you are slowly getting your 'mojo' back so I am so grateful to you to making yourself sit and make a challenge card.  I hope that as each week passes you start to feel better as your body gets used to your medication. Sending hugs xxx

Michele has also made four challenge cards, all using different techniques for the background....

No.1 My challenge card!!! Used the free gift from Simply Cards & Papercraft plus the Linen texture Embossing Folder to create my background.

No.2Another challenge card from me-I used Creative Expressions Cosmic Pearls to make the scribble background (white /purple/black) then but it into strips. Added a swirly Christmas tree plus star gems & a sentiment.

No.3  Drizzled Cosmic Pearls for this Background and a Lisa Horton Die, such a cute dog

No.4  Using same die but with a Embossed Background.

Thank you so much Michele for making 4 fantastic cards, I am grateful as you work full time too so it's harder for you find time to craft.  xxxx

Maria had fun getting messy for this weeks challenge cards, I have included the photo's of the backgrounds that Maria made for using at a later date too, you have some amazing colours and patterns there Maria, I think I might have a play with this method.

Here is Maria's Description…..

I had fun getting real messy with the shaving foam but as I didn't

have any wet ink to use I just put what I had and it didn't go so well

but I still used one background for  "under the sea".

Another thing I did was using some of my smaller EF's and then play

with stroking over some TimH inks and oxide's. Only made one card

with it so far but took some photos of the others to use at a later date

Thank you so much Maria, I am so pleased that the challenge got you trying something new for your cardmaking, some amazing results there, your cards are amazing too. xxx

The lovely  Nicki has made a Challenge card for us this week, its a stunning Eclipse card, you have to look for the 40 (top right) but thats down to the angle of the photograph.
Here is the description:

Here’s a cc from young Nicki I have her permission for you to display it - she’s busy packing for a holiday at mo
It’s a stamped background using layered stamps and is an eclipse card - See the 40? which she has covered with glossy  accents- still drying when she sent it to me

Thank you so much Nicki for taking part in our challenge, I have missed seeing your cards. This one is gorgeous xxx

Ladies a heartfelt thank you to all of you for a fabulous display of art, you are so inspirational,  look at the variety of techniques we have all used.  Mind you i would hate to hazard a guess at the value of Craft stash we have between us, I am fairly confident we could fill our own shop and run workshops without having to buy anything new!!  Let's not think about that too much.  Especially as I am popping to Margaret's later to collect some stampin up goodies that she ordered for me!!! Ssshhhh!!

Have a lovely Sunday ladies,

Love and hugs to all of you

  1. I have had fun looking at everyone’s backgrounds and seeing how you have created them and then what fantastic cards you turned them into
Like LYNDA I could have created more but time just gave out on me
Thank you again on your lovely comments re the scarf and I’m glad you found the pattern Once you get your head around creating the loops and slip stitching the loops it is an easy pattern I wish we lived closer together and I could show you myself
I may not mention you in person BUT I do think of you all and just wish I could wave a magic wand and make everyone feel better
Wish me luck today OH has volunteered to cook Sunday roast for the first time in 43 years of marriage! Actually it’s the first time of cooking anything!
I could be back JANET for one of your delicious roasts!
    Take care all xxxx

    1. Hi Karen. All of your cards are fabulous. I would love to know how you made the first and second cards backgrounds please. I wish you could show me how to crochet, and read the patterns. I keep having a go but just can’t get my head round it! I’m sending you, and hubby, lots of good luck wishes on him cooking his first roast dinner. I hope you enjoy it. The good luck wishes are also for your kitchen surviving it! Many years ago Chris would seem to use just about every pot, pan and utensil and cover every surface too but he soon got the hang of it luckily as we used to have a “ the person cooking doesn’t wash up” rule lol. X

    2. Karen, how did you managed to get that marble effect on your first card ? hugs xx

    3. I wish I was close enough Sue to be able to teach you how to crochet
The first card I made at Stamperama The stamps are by a lovely lady called Tracey Scott - can’t remember which company was selling her stamps The first layer for both cards are just randomly stamping with a black ink I just happened to use Archival The second layer she used paints just smeared over in patches I used DO Once dry stamp all over again with black ink This time ai used the flower and a crackle stamp
Again once dry we dabbed gold paint using scrunched up paper or tin foil- literally dab and lift Don’t smear I traced around the butterfly to cut and make a base Randomly inked it and laid the fine detail butterfly from GUMMIAPAN Hope that helps xx

  2. Morning Ladies

    Hurrah-I can finally comment !!!

What an absolutely stunning collection of challenge cards. When I finally got a wriggle on, I really enjoyed this challenge. I’ve already started next weeks challenge too.

Had a lovely morning yesterday- met up with a friend at Dobbies as it’s her birthday tomorrow. Handed her a gift bag & Birthday Card-is made a bag full of cards for her to use all through the year. She was absolutely thrilled.

Housework this morning then I’m heading into my craft room to play!

  4. Hi Sandra and everyone in the Cafe today. Wow, what wonderful challenge cards. I also get the feeling you enjoyed yourself too Lynda hehe. And Maria, Karen and Michele all have got lots made too. Val, Janet and Nickis made beautiful cards as well.
I didn’t get much done in the end yesterday but am in the middle of deciding what to do with a background that is a different style for me so I’m off to do that now.
Sending love and hugs to you all with extras for all in need. Take care xx

  5. Hi
    Sandra & ladies
Wowser love all the challenge cards this morning such beautiful backgrounds from everyone. Shame a couple of mine showed to be very dark I had trouble photographing them. But I did enjoy doing this challenge.
I have now got to concentrate on making Sam's birthday card for the hoping to start that today. We had a lovely day with Lisa yesterday. We took her out for lunch at the new weather spoon at Ramsgate must say there service was outstanding as was the meal. Had a good catch up with her.
Not a very nice day raining with strong winds so probably have a PJ day. Terry has to put the shelves back into the boiler cupboard so good excuse to sort out unwanted coats and cloths not needed anymore as. So going to grab my shower & put clean Pj's on
Hug's for everyone with extra for Pat Pete Lilian Val.
    Love Lynda xx

  6. Hi everyone.
So may wonderful backgrounds and cards ladies. I love it on the Sunday to see what you have made with the CC.
Well as you can see I have quite a few cards more to make up so don't be surprised if you recognise some at you coming birthday's :>) I have one to make for my Dad first as his is on the 11th so best get it soon in the post.
I has been two very late nights so not much happening today. Got away from not cooking the dinner last night so guess I will have to make something tonight. Good luck Karen, enjoy your roast. Tell us how it went. My OH will cook some steaks on Tuesday and he can cook eggs in many forms, can I then call him the chef ?hihi
I hope you all have a nice day and in smallest amount of pain all around. Love and hugs, Maria xxx

  7. Hello Sandra and ladies,
WOW what a great display of challenge cards, ladies you are all amazing, every card is lovely, it is obvious you enjoyed this challenge. xx Sorry I didn’t send a card Sandra, I did play at making backgrounds with Pixie Powders, Brushos and stamps, but nothing inspired me. Hope I can rise to the challenge this week.
Now I’ve got to prove I’m not a robot, the last time this happened I was almost pulling my hair out, it took so long. Grrr Well here goes.........
    Love to everyone, Brenda xxx
