Hello Craft Friends,
Welcome to my blog, for anyone new popping in for the Blog Hop Monday is our Blog Challenge day, I set a challenge for everyone and showcase the cards that everyone makes on a Sunday, we have been doing this for about three years now, it's a great 'mojo' booster and a great way to keep yourself busy in the craft room.
The Card
The Theme for the Blog Hop is 'Christmas' so I designed this card, I had to get creative as Stampin'Up! Don't have a specific Poinsettia die and I really wanted to feature a Poinsettia on my card, so after a bit of playing I came up with the one above which is made using the Skeleton Leaves from the 'Rooted in Nature' Bundle, I think that the embossing part of the Thinlit is what really makes it look like a more realistic Poinsettia. I highlighted the edges and embossing with a little bit of Gold Gilding Wax.
I started by cutting my card base 4 1/2 X 11 1/2, scored at 5 3/4 card out of Very Vanilla, I put the card base in my Stamperatus and stamped the border stamp from the 'Dashing Deer' Stamp set down the sides, the great thing about the Stamperatus is you don't have to move the stamp or the card, you just lift the stamp plate out and move it down a couple of notches, that way you no for sure that it will line up perfectly!
I then took another piece of Very Vanilla card and embossed it with the new 'Swirls and Curls' Embossing folder, I matted it onto a piece of gold card and popped some dimensionals on the back to raise it up a little, I placed it between the two stamped borders.
I made my Poinsettia by die cutting and embossing Skeleton Leaves from the 'Rooted in Nature' stamp set, I used Cherry Cobbler and Shaded Spruce card, as I thought these were the nearest colours to Poinsettias. I brushed the sides and embossed areas lightly with a dauber dipped in a little gilding wax, just to enhance the embossing. I then roughly cut a circle of card and built up the layers of leaves, shaping them as I went, I placed a Faceted Gem in the centre that I had coloured yellow with a Stampin' Blend (alcohol marker). I placed this onto my embossed card and then die cut a couple of the 'Dashing Deer's Antlers' to use as flourishes, just to draw your eye into the Poinsettia.
I stamped a sentiment from the Dashing Deer stamp set onto Very Vanilla card using Versamark, I then added Gold Embossing powder and heat set, then I trimmed it down so that it would fit inside the Gold frame that I had die cut.
To finish the card I just cut some of the tiny flowers from the 'Detailed Deer' Thinlits in Shaded Spruce and Cherry Cobbler, so that they resembled tiny poinsettias.
I hope you like my card. xx
The Challenge
This week's challenge is to make a card that features 'At Least One Kind of Embossing'.
As you can see on my card I used Heat Embossing and 'Dry' embossing (using a folder).
I don't mind if you want to used Masks and Stencils with Embossing Paste.
I can't wait to see what you all come up with.

Off to SALSA this evening and I might even get to craft this afternoon Take care xx
Hi everyone,
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely card SANDRA. Such a clever idea to make the poinsettia from a leaf die. I have quite a few embossing folders so will enjoy this challenge.
JANET enjoy your time in Marigny.
MARIA and MICHELE, Enjoy your holidays.
We're still in our summer clothes over here so it was funny yesterday having to go through my winter clothes in the spare bedroom wardrobe to sort out what to take back to UK next week. Pretty excited already as although Barrie and I Skype every week, I haven't actually seen him since January and I can't wait to give him a hug.
KAREN enjoy your Salsa.
Hugs to PAT and PETE for hospital visits this week.
Love Valx

Maria, Michele & Val hope you are enjoying your holiday.xxx
Val how lovely you get to see Barrie, they are still your babies no matter how old they are. How is DIL getting on?xxx
Café open fresh tablecloths & flowers on tables, come on in for a cuppa & chat.
Sending hugs to all who need them particularly Pat & Pete & Lilian, love Margaret.xxx
Your right Margaret. He's 46 now but still my little boy. Helen my DIL has had nasty ulcers in her mouth. she's had a biopsy but thank goodness it nothing too nasty. They think it's all the medication she's on. I really worry about the pair of them though. Being so infirm puts a tremendous strain on them both.
DeleteThank you for asking about about them Margaret and also for looking after the cafe this week. I was a bit too late calling in yesterday and missed out on a lovely roast dinner.
Take care.x
love the card x
ReplyDeleteAfternoon Everyone
ReplyDeleteA beautiful card SANDRA and inspiratioen for us to look at our dies with different eyes.
Have been down to Corbigny for some food shopping this morning and I think we are now able to relax a little.
A good Challenge for this week though I don't think I'll be able to join in as I've left the camera back in the UK and I am one of those dinasaurs who hasn't a 'smart' phone. I'll have a go and keep them until I get back.
The CAFE looks lovely MARGARET and I know it's in safe hands hehehe. So all of you best behaviour for her.lol
HUGS a plenty for you all xxxx
Hi Janet
DeleteI hope your enjoying your holiday in your little corner of paradise.
Hello Sandra and ladies,
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely card, love how you have created your beautiful poinsettias.
sorry I haven't been in for a couple of days we haven't had the internet since Saturday morning, in fact we still haven't got any. an engineer is due to call tomorrow and hopefully fix it. It's all to do with the new modem, real pain I can tell you.
Love all of the cards yesterday, sorry I didn't get mine to you I just had to add the embellishment when the internet went down. I was lost! it only occurred to me that I could get a message to you via my mobile. which is daft because I looked at yesterday's cards on the mobile, the brains is a bit slow these days!!!
Love to everyone, Brenda XXX
I know the feeling Brenda. Not to sure where mine disappears to sometimes.
DeleteHello All, damp and cold, heating on.
ReplyDeleteI did comment yesterday but when I went to publish it kept coming up with an error message, hope it will be ok today.
Lovely cards yesterday all so different,
Sandra lovely card today very inventive, use for the flower.
Saw surgeon today re my bad knee, although he says my knee is severe, there is no cartilage left between the bones in my knee, BUT, He wouldn’t consider a new knee because of my A F. So just a case of pain killers and living with it, not what I wanted to hear, but better than a stroke.
Sorry for the moan.
Called into hobby craft on the way home, not much new stuff, and very expensive, oxide ink pads £7 each.
Well enjoy the rest of the day, hugs to all Lilian
Hi Lilian
DeleteMust have been a blow to hear that Lilian. I’m sure you would have preferred a new knee rather than painkillers.
What a stunning card! This is my first visit to your blog. I have been following Amanda on You Tube for about six months now and she lead me to this hop and your blog. It's always exciting for me to find crafters and card makers I have not met before and see their creations. Hope you have a wonderful week tfs.

Hi Ladies
ReplyDeleteNot to sure what happened as my post today seemed to appear in yesterday’s.
Lorraine I’m sorry to hear that your chemo is no longer working. I hope the scan comes through quickly for you. I think it’s the waiting that’s the worse.
I quite agree with you that its a horrible disease.
Thanks for the hugs everyone, there very much appreciated.
Hi Pat I know what you meen my comment is always disappearing & like you one went on the day before blog. It's most odd isn't it pesky aliens.
