Mixed Up Saturday featuring Sue's Mag Review

Good Morning Ladies,

I hope that you are all well and are relaxed ready for the weekend, we don't have any plans except the dreaded food shopping, which feels like you are taking a huge health risk every time you go, I do wish people would listen to the statistics and be sensible about wearing masks etc, we are grasping onto hope that masks and sanitising our hands will keep us safe.

Sue has very kindly written us a review of her Simply Cards and papercraft magazine........

Simply cards and papercraft

Issue 229 April 2022

This months magazine comes with summery peach and pear stamps and outline dies and a pretty blossom stamp. And as usual there are some lovely digital download papers and toppers to compliment them.

This months cards are all very cheerful and summery and there is something for every level to enjoy making. There is a watercolour recessed shaker card.  It’s definitely not a quick one to make but worth it in the end I’m sure.

Have a look at some previous winners of the Cardmaker of Year competition 2022. A lot of them say the same thing “You have to be in it to win it” and it certainly opens doors into paper crafting on a professional level if you want it to.

Here are some more ways to use your stamps, dies and digital papers. Some pretty quick make. The little note book will make a great gift or as prizes at summer fetes etc.

It’s great to see some alternative ways of crafting. This shows how you can do as little or as much as you want when it comes to mixed media crafting. Ideal for confidence building if you’re like me.

Another great way to craft is using different texture pastes. I hope Sandra and I can get together and have a go at the
How to: scribe into texture paste very soon as I think it is a new idea to both of us. Watch this space!

Mens  cards are the hard ones. I think we all agree but you can make any of these great ones using the digital papers shown on the left of the Well done card.

Now this is a article about calligraphy with foiling to make those cards stand out. You could certainly use a stamped or die cut sentiment if you’re like me and no good at writing freehand no matter what style! And don’t forget that you can use ordinary pva type glue (as long as it’s not too runny)with foil. You don’t have to have any special equipment. I love the simplicity of the Gappy Anniversary card. It’s one for my To Do list.

This is an easy way of making inner pop up cards. The instructions are easy to follow and there are only a few straight line cuts to be made. Yet another one for me and Sandra to try.  I really like the flowers that gave been used too.

This is all about using different techniques and mediums to colour your makes including water colouring with Distress inks, Distress Oxides, heat embossing and with alcohol pens. There is something for everyone. I particularly like the square peach heat embossed card. Another one for my  to do list.

The final article is an out Dustress ink die cutting which gives some beautiful effects but it’s one I haven’t tried….yet!
It simply means you colour a piece of card with Distress inks, cut a cardboard die cut as a stencil. Spritz the inked card lay the stencil on top then run it through your die cutting machine. Definitely one I will be trying  If anyone wants any more details just let me knowxx

Thanks so much Sue for taking time to write this weeks magazine review, there are some great features.  I look forward to experimenting with Texture paste with you!  Thanks again my lovely,  you know how much I appreciate it XXX

My Shopping

I just couldn't resist those 'The Ton' stamps and background die that were featured in the last magazine review I did, so they found their way into my shopping basket this week, I will say that the stamp set is HUGE, its A4 in length and a bit wider!
I also wanted some pretty sequins,  Bumbleberry crafts have some beautiful collections,  they vary in price I think mine were £5.99 but there are loads in there.
Karen's Cute Critter

How adorable us Karen's latest creation??!! 😍  karen created this little chap with Ukraine in mind, such a lovely idea Karen.
Thank you so much for sharing him with us. XXX

That's all for today Ladies, Have a lovely Saturday,

Love and hugs to all of you,

Sandra

  1. Morning Ladies

Sandra-that sign is perfect! I’ve ordered a couple of craft items this week because I’ve been watching so much YouTube craft videos!

    Sue-great magazine Review.

Karen-love your new creation, he’s great.

I went into Southport yesterday by train saw crowds of people boarding trains to Liverpool who were very smartly dressed snd realised it was Ladies day at Aintree races. Once I’d wandered round the shops in the sunshine I decided it would be better (and safer) to get the bus home.
I’m hoping the weather stays fine this morning as I’m going to walk into the village as one if the churches is having a Table top sale outdoors. I’m meeting my crazy friend there assuming the weather is ok.

  6. Sue's Comment:
I love the saying on the blog today. I hope you have a good time at the NT house if you get there. I haven’t heard of it so will definitely be looking it up as it looks like a fabulous building xx
Karen, I love your brilliant little critter Karen. A lovely touch making him in the Ukrainian colours xx
Lilian I must be honest and say that I nearly gave up yesterday on the review as three times as I was typing all of the text just vanished! Have absolutely no idea why and it’s never happened before but I ended up sending it in four parts and Sandra kindly managed to put it all together. I have to apologise for the spelling and grammar mistakes. I do hope the sun appears again as that might help you shake off the Covid xx
