Good Sunday Morning Ladies,
We are back home, after a lovely little break away, we definitely got our moneys worth out of those Black Country Living Museum tickets, we spent more time chatting to yhe staff this time, we have discovered new things each time we have been as there has been a different person 'in Character' in the different houses and shops, I think the part you don't think about is that had it not been to the Museum rescuing the building from being demolished or the kind families that donate their family homes to the museum all of that history would be lost. We chatted to the Lady in the Pharmacy, the original owner died suddenly and his son took it over, he ran it until he physically couldn't manage any longer, on his last day he locked the door and walked away, his lack of mobility meant that there was an Aladdin's cave of unopened boxes of stock, the many jars and bottles that lined the walls from floor to ceiling with their contents still inside. I could have spent hours in their looking at all of the hundreds of different lotions & potions. I think that it's incredible that the take these buildings down brick by brick and rebuild them like a puzzle, every part numbered. Their research teams look into the history of the building and the family itself so that they can recreate the story realistically. I cannot recommend visiting this Museum enough, everyone working there is so passionate about the Black Country and its history.
Let's look at what you have been making:
Karen
Karen's Description:
Card 1:
My first play with the layering washi tapes I love ‘em!
Added a few white splats
I think I’ve “overwhelmed” it by using the black mat and the font is definitely too large (which I pinched from Aall & Create!) It’ll be donated to the bowls club Somebody will like it 🤣
Created background with DO and stencil #130 from Aall and Create
Cards 2 & 3 :
The square one has a JL vellum butterfly which I coloured with DO and the DL one I have used Glossy Accents on the yellow “flowers” and one of my favourite Serif backgrounds.
Oh Karen, WOW, 3 amazing cards, that layered Washi tape is amazing and I love what you did with it, I don't think the words are too big, I think the whole piece works perfectly. Sometimes we are our own harshest critic!
Your other two cards are are so lovely, that background is to die for, I really need you to teach me how to use Serif ! So perfect, thank you so very much for 3 incredible cards and for always supporting the challenges XXX
Lilian
Lilian's Description:
Hi here is my tag for this week, sorry it’s late, I’ve been working on another one BUT I knocked over my tea, wasn’t looking where my die cut plates were, so just cutting a message to finish off and over my cup went, so that’s in the bin.
This one is distress oxides sponged and spattered. (Mermaid Lagoon)
Stamped with Tim Holtz small patt. Background stamp, tiny prints.
Then added texture paste through floral layering stencil.
When dry used imagine sheer shimmer spray.
Found a couple of old flowers and ribbon to finish off.
Oh Lilian that background is amazing, such a brilliant idea to use the tiny prints stamp for that added detail. The texture paste through that pretty stencil makes the whole thing come together perfectly, I love the little flowers that you have finished your tag with, they are simple but perfect. I love that sentiment too.
Thank you so much my lovely for another inspirational tag XXX

Sleep well .Lilian
Hi Sandra and all looking in. A wonderful bright and cheerful selection of cards to enjoy today. They are all so lovey.
ReplyDeleteSandra, each one of your cards are beautiful, I love that alcohol one with its vibrant strong colours, if you described it without seeing it you would probably think it was going to be too much but it isn’t, just perfect, love it. We are defo going to visit the museum. I’m like you in finding these type of places absolutely fascinating. We always loved looking at the old shops especially the chemist shop at Flambards theme park down I Cornwall which we took the children too several times. Sadly it closed down the week we were down in Devon. If we had realised we would have tried to visit one last time. Anyway glad you both had a lovely time. The staff clearly love their jobs which makes such a difference doesn’t it xx
Karen, your cards are lovely. I don’t think you have made a mistake at all on the first one and I love the backgrounds on the second and third ones, so pretty and bright.
Lilian, your tag is gorgeous. I love the layers and the blue background is beautiful, a lovely shade in my favourite colour. Xx
My tag was easy to make, it doesn’t show but I cut the stars through a piece of card then stuck the colours behind each hole. I deliberately kept it flat for posting rather than building it up with foam pads. I do like the hello die and I actually remembered to emboss it for a change! I did it three times to get a real shine and a bit of depth on it. A quick and easy card.
We have had the grands so I’m feeling rather tired now. I had a couple of hours nap after they all went home late afternoon. It is always so good to have them all here. They enjoyed making their little Christmas cakes, they will decorate them in a couple of weekends when we Don the puddings. Sleep well. Take care. Love Sue xx
