This is very similar to how my desk looks at the
End of a craft session!!
Good Saturday Morning Ladies,
Hello from the West Midlands, its a chilly overcast day here, we won't let that stop us enjoying our last visit to the Black Country Living Museum, we went there yesterday too, my goodness me it was so cold, it made us appreciate the fires going in all of the little old cottages, it must cost them a fortune in coal, my goodness it makes the houses feel welcoming and cosy though. Mind you one of the ladies was saying that she starts getting 'moany' at around 3pm as she lets the fire burn out ready to clean and lay in for the next, she said the ash gets everywhere, meaning she has to clean around the room too, she said her husband could tell which area she had worked in that day because of the smell of smoke when she got home! The one memory we had from when we went years ago was the smell of the cooking of food over the range cookers, one couple were telling us that they used to cook a full sunday roast with rice pudding at weekends, they used to share it with their fellow 'actors' in neighbouring houses, the smells drew people in and created a great talking points. They said that now the day seems so much longer as since Covid they aren't allowed to cook and prepare food, which seems ridiculous as the general public aren't eating it. While we were there yesterday the Tow path and canal area were cordoned off as there were set builders in preparing for filming, o e of the workers told us that it could well be new storylines for Peaky Blinders, Paul and I haven't watched that TV show but they filmed quite a bit at the museum!
Now Ladies, I tried a new technique this week called the 'Drunken Foil Technique', probably as you use Tin Foil and Alcohol inks!
Firstly I adhered a piece if Tin Foil to a piece of white card. I then ran the foiled piece through machine with my Gina K Embossing folder.
Next cover the Embossing with a coat of Gesso and allow to dry thoroughly.
Now have fun adding your Alcohol inks, I think it could work with Alcohol pens too (although I haven't gotten around to trying that). When you are happy with your colour combination you must allow this to try thoroughly. It looks messy but trust the process!
The final step that makes a huge difference and brings the whole piece together, use a brayer to coat your raised embossed areas with gold/metallic paint, I have tried with Gold Ink pad, which looks great but isn't drying fully, I have ordered some gold acrylic paint, so I am going to give that a go.
I definitely think I would use less Alcohol ink on my next attempt, my piece is very colourful 🤣😂. I do love it though, they look like 'jewel' tones!!
That's all from me today,
Have a lovely day,
Love & hugs to all of you,
Sandra xxx
Great saying I don’t ever seem to tidy my desk I just push bits around to create a space!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your trip to the museum I keep promising myself that we go and never get around to it I love anything to do with social history
Your technique/card looks amazing I went to get some gesso out yesterday and it was rock hard and so it’s in the bin

Take care everyone xx
Hi everyone
ReplyDeleteFabulous card 💕 the colours are amazing. I love it !
Have a good day at the museum. I like to go there one day myself. Wrap up warm, it feels very cold and I'm indoors .
Even after looking on Pinterest and seeing your wonderful and colourful cards I haven't felt well enough to make any cc this week, so sorry Sandra. Will do better next week.
Have a good day everyone. Warm hugs to you all, Maria xx
Hi everyone, another dull day, they make feel very lazy.
ReplyDeleteHow true is that saying, you should see my table now I’ve just finished my tag for this week. I know I should put things away as I use them, maybe sometime. Looking forward to trying your new technique, tried something similar years ago, with just foil, needless to say it didn’t work.
Hope everyone is having a good Saturday, Lilian
Hi Sandra and all looking in. A great saying as always. My desk is full of all sorts again. It seems to be a never ending mess these days!
ReplyDeleteI love this technique. It really shows off those gorgeous colours. I wonder what mine would look like? Will try one day.
I hope you have had a lovely day. It has been really cold. I put the heating in this afternoon when even Chris jnr and Paige said they were cold which is a very rare event. Chris is a boy who hates wearing trousers, he is still in shorts at school. And our Paige had always been a warm body too even as a baby. All of the grands are here for the weekend. We are all making Christmas cakes tomorrow. We will make a couple of Christmas puddings next weekend probably.
Sleep well everyone. Take care. Love Sue xx
