Man Card Monday!

Good Monday Morning Ladies,
Its now just 3 weeks and 3 days until we all meet up! I am just buzzing with excitement!!!
Now this weeks Man Card Monday is an extra special one, it features a special card that features a very special man and its been created by a very special friend!!
Lynda your birthday card for Terry is just brilliant, I must say that his High Visibility jacket looks very
'clean', maybe he was just 'supervising' on that day! lol
The card must have bought a huge smile to Terry's face, that is the beauty of handmade cards, they are so personal and mean so much more to the recipient, well I know it does to me!
I can see that you have used the Creative Expressions 'Happy Birthday' Die, designed by Sue Wilson,
I love the colours of the card you have used to matt and layer the card with too, are they all Foundation card?? That blue looks like it is.
I also love how you have displayed the card Lynda, thank you so much for sharing such a personal 'Man card' with all of us xxxxx

What have you all got planned this week? I have got some cards to make, I may make a start on my Christmas cards too, I borrowed Pats Christmas Embossing Folders so I must put them to good use.
We are going to Pats to craft this week, with holidays and everything it seems like ages since we have been to Pat's, so I am really looking forward to it, Poor Pete probably isn't quite so excited though!
Although I am not sure why, we really don't make that much noise or mess....do we?? actually Paul may disagree! Just kidding, he doesn't mind at all.
Well that's me off for a cup of tea, catch up later,
Love and hugs
Sandra

    2. Happy Birthday for yesterday Lilian, I am so sorry I didn't know other wise I would have put it on the blog! I will add you to the list my lovely!
Now forgive me for thinking this but why would you tidy up for your cleaner? Isn't that what she is paid to do?
Having said that I would do the exact same thing, as would most of us I believe! We can't have the cleaner thinking we are dirty now, can we?
      Have a lovely day Lilian,

I make my porridge in the microwave, so much easier, half a cup of oats, a cup of water, little salt, microwave for 2mins 30seconds, job done, you can even eat it out of the bowl, easy washing up!! You can put what you want in it, honey, sugar, cream whatever takes your fancy

Porridge with salt is possibly the most vile thing in the world. My first experience was on a school trip to Bute and I can still remember the shock of my first taste of Scottish porridge. Yuck yuck and triple yuck.

Will try the microwave for my porridge, I always put a pinch of salt when I cook it but like milk and honey on top. Not sure I wouldn't let it boil over in the microwave. I'm not a great cook as you can tell.

    24. Lillian, we are getting excited about the retreat, and are hoping it all goes well as its the first one and seeing how the 12 that are going coming from all over the country it's going to be fun and games I think. I know if it goes well there will be a other one next year I am sure. We are lucky and having Christine Emerson coming on the FRIDAY evening to demo, a Stamping Up demo on the Saturday afternoon and just everyone showing there skills to us all, we will likely learn a lot of things that we could have maybe done better, but that will be ok. We would t all know each other ( apart from Patricia and I ) if it wasn't for this fabulous coffee shop blog of Sandra's. Xxx

    25. I make my porridge in a pyrex jug in the microwave just like Jess but with one difference, I get it all ready the night before and the heat it for just 1 minute and leave it to stand over night. Next morning I heat again for 2 minutes but it must have a pinch of salt in, and I'm not Scottish!
The reason I heat it for 1 minute the night before a famous Lake District chef wrote about making porridge in one of his books and he said starting it the night before and putting it next to a heater for the night makes it more creamy. So I adapted his method a little and it really does make it more creamy. xxx

Happy belated birthday for yesterday. I hope you had a great day.
We also do our porridge in the microwave no salt though.

    28. Last time I did porridge in the microwave I got distracted and it went everywhere! Like the idea of starting it the night before - might try that. No salt for me, has to have brown sugar and milk and at Christmas when there's spare cream around a bit of cream and it has been known for a small drop of whisky to find it's way in! Haha xxxx

    29. I like to add some chopped apple dried dates or figs and sometimes a chopped banana but definitely no salt. We sometimes mix it the night before, like Margaret Corgi owner, it does make it really creamy. Chris also does the same with museli, but I like that with a bit of bite x

  3. Good morning Sandra and the Café Crew. Very dark here this morning, looks like the end of the really nice weather. Hopefully it will brighten up as the day goes on.
LYNDA:- bet your card fairly brightened Terry's day when he opened it up. It's brilliant, love how you have used a photo of Terry, must remember that.
Everything set up for the day. Think we might have to start doing Soup & Sandwich for Lunch if this weather continues.
SANDRA:- you are on a Countdown, it is making the Retreat all the more exciting.
Got my Tea & Toast and over at that corner table. Won't stay long this is cleaning day here. The bedding was all done and dusted yesterday so will have some extra "free" time later. I left out my boxes with my Christmas Card Stuff so will make a few more of them some time later. Nearly there 1/2 are in their envelopes, adddressed and ready for posting. Some ready for the inserts to in.

  4. Morning Sandra and all my friends and anyone else looking in today.
This is 'butterball' calling but sure I'm not first or I will have a job to make it look and smell so lovely as it does every morning when one of the sisters been in.
Anyhow Lynda I love your card for Terry. It is great and so personal. He must have loved it too or I will have a word Lol
Woke up early to a reddish sky and rain so might not get a walk in today but shopping is needed as the cupboards and fridge look awfully empty and my youngest stepson coming for a few day's on Thursday and between him and son the shopping will need to be extra large for they can eat non-stop and still not put on an ounce. Last night we watched a film together and I fell asleep halfway through so went to bed and forgot to say good night, sorry. I hope you all had it anyway and no nightmares Sandra.
Tea and toast finished so I'm going into the kitchen to see if I can make some cards, mojo lacking. See you later, have a nice day everyone Hugs Maria XxX

Lynda - your card is fantastic and as Sandra says handmade can be personalised so well to suit the receiver. I love the way you have layered and the colours used. I can just see Terry's face light up when he opened the envelope.

Patricia - How ORGANISED ARE YOU!!!!!! Envelopes addressed and ready for posting!!!!! I thought I was doing well as I'm well on my way with Seasonal cards but definitely not that well. I think I shall have to call you 'Mrs Super Patricia' in future' hehehe.

It's also dark here this morning so yes we're well into Autumn. The trees do look stunning though even if the weather isn't.

Want to try and get everything finished for my K&N next Tuesday today and then I can try and get some more Seasonal Cards done. I seem to be slowing down in making them so will have to give myself a good talking to. Right have to go as Mr Tesco is due at 09.00 and the washer will be finished in a bit. That latte tasted so good this morning. Hugs for all who want them and extra large ready for those who need them today.

  8. Hi Sandra and all the lovely ladies
Lynda what a great card for a man, I hope Terry loved it - hadn't thought to use a photo on a card. These days with digital cameras you can print a photo out as many times as you like which means you don't ruin the original if anything goes wrong. Thank you for sharing it with us, and if it was a recent card, happy belated birthday to Terry. Xxx
It sounds like we've all got the bleak weather today - yes dark and raining here too, what a difference. We didn't spend long in the garden yesterday but did fill our garden bin up for collection this week. We went out to chop back roses and a couple of trees and got sidetracked by an expanding Heather and some ivy! The ivy grows over our front wall and covers the gate pillar so I take it off a couple of times a year. It hasn't been taken off yet this year so it was really thick and big but between the two of us we managed but it did fill the bin with a bit to spare! I'm hoping by the end of the week the bin contence will have settled enough to put the last bit in. Once we removed the ivy we found the pillar had cracked and was loose. We had a discussion about having to find someone to repair it, probably not being able to match the bricks so rebuilding all the wall so thousands of pounds rather than hundreds! Julian went to the garage and came back with a tube of no more nails - a few squirts, a bit of shifting back to front and a clean up with some kitchen roll and we walked away with our fingers crossed. After lunch we went out for a walk, gave the gate post a wiggle and touch wood it seems to be holding! Definitely a Bodge it job but hopefully it will last through the winter until the warm weather of the spring it will give us a chance to investigate some builders and get quotes. Well I must get a wriggle on and get my breakfast - there's new parking restrictions in place outside today which will effect the school mums and hopefully make life easier for the residence! It could be a fun watch today as it's raining and I'm sure a traffic warden will be around! Oh what a way to find amusement in my life! Haha. See you all later xxxxxx

A quickie post as off to Cheddar Reservoir for our Monday constitutional. We had very stormy weather last night which has now died down, still fine rain so walking in weatherproofs is the order of the day. Must remember my gloves this morning, my hands ae so achey.

Oh my goodness Lynda, what a fantastic card for Terry!. I bet he loves it. Give him a gurt big (HUG) from me. I hope his day is wonderful for him.

I was intrigued by Sandra's Willow poem yesterday, so I looked on Wikipedia and there it is. I must admit I had never heard of it before so it must be a recent/new addition as it is not mentioned, nor it's author, in other info sites I looked at regarding the Willow story.
I was so chuffed though that I had remembered from the deepest depths of my brain the outline of the story as I gave yesterday.

    Off to get ready

  10. Morning Ladies

Lynda-what a brilliant card you have made for your hubby. It's given me an idea for my hubby's birthday card- I could use a holiday photo on it.

Lillian- I hope you had a lovely birthday yesterday.

Goodness- miserable day here today. Raining , very windy & chilly. Luckily I have the day off as the builder was meant to start a few jobs but he's asked to delay starting here which was fine with us especially as it meant we didn't have to empty the loft yesterday. I'm going to do a big Tesco shop then settle myself in the craft room, hubby is back at work today-he's working from home today then away tomorrow until Friday so it's back to normal.

Thank you all for your welcome back wishes. My holiday was certainly a memorable one- another disaster happened which I'll share with you. We bought a takeaway pizza one evening so I put 2 slices on plates then put the pizza (in its box) in the oven which I had set to "broil" which is grill to us. A few minutes later we both sniffed & looked round to see smoke pouring out on the oven......the pizza box was in flames!!!! I have honestly never moved so fast in my life-hubby opened the patio doors then came to my aid. We salvaged the pizza (too good to waste) then left the charred box outside. Unfortunately as the villa was open plan, everywhere stunk of smoke so we locked up & went to buy air freshener & oven cleaner. This was about a week before we left and it took the week for the smell to disappear. It's a good job we kept all the bedroom doors closed-that was only to stop the kids wandering in them.
Not one of my finer moments I can tell you!

    Michele.

    1. MICHELE:- great to have you back, sorry the weather is not good for you today, a good day for clearing for the builders!!!
I did laugh when you told me about your "pizza mishap" not funny but it happens to us all.....well it did to me anyway!!
      I told Michele this story;-
As you know we live out in the sticks. A few years ago we kept having power cuts that lasted for days. We have an open fire, heat no problem. We have a gas Hob cooking no problem. I bought a pretty Whisteling Kettle for on the hob which I actually leave there all the time. I lit the gas under a pot one day, walked away and after a few minutes I smelt a funny smell ..... I had lit the wrong gas and it was the paint on my kettle I was smelling. Well I did have a pretty kettle ... not so pretty now. I really must get another one next time I am out and about. xxx

      Delete
    2. It's probably safer for all concerned - but I didn't know a pizza box could be put in the oven! I've led a rather sheltered life I think! Now I can forget pans with the best of 'em!! I once had hard boiled eggs which had exploded stuck to the kitchen ceiling - I went upstairs to make beds etc and forgot all about them! Xxx

      Delete
    3. Oh Myra I have done that a few times, the smell stays for ages. I am like you I wouldn't put a box in the oven let alone under the grill. I am funny about even using these dishes that meals come in that you can put in the oven and they are few and far between in this house. The other thing I don't do is foil in the grill pan. Have seen to many accidents while we were in army quarters where it's caught fire. xxx

      Delete
    4. Myra I have done that quite a lot, I once had six all exploding and boy what a smell, needless to say the pan went in the bin! xxx

      Delete
    5. A friend of mine went to Florida to stay in a villa which they ended up buying but after the long flight all she wanted was a cup of tea so filled the kettle and put it on the electric hob. The kettle was an electric kettle and had started to melt on the hob! They had to go out and buy another kettle to replace the melted one as well as hob cleaner, several bottles and a mountain of air fresheners it took all of three weeks to get rid of the smell. So Michele I think you got off lightly! xxx

  13. Good morning Sandra and all our ladies
It's a beautiful sunny day here so the washing machine will be on non stop. There is always so much after our sailing holiday. First lot is already out, second lot in the washer. The place looks like a bombsite, but hopefully by the end of today it wall be sorted and packed away in the loft ready for next year.
I have got Peter under my feet all day so will probably be frazzled by the end of the day. He is already twittering about what we are having for lunch.
Lynda your card for Terry is brilliant, what a good idea to use a photograph. I took some lovely ones this year of Peter at the helm and will definitely pinch your idea, thank you for the inspiration.
Patricia, I might have to join Muriel for a lie down. I haven't even got a design in my head yet, let alone made a start on my Christmas cards. I feel like sticking my head in the gas oven except it's electric and I don't want to end up like Michele's pizza.
Diane, you made me laugh with your "no nails" very clever. Many years ago the whole side of my chair - its one of those old fashioned ones with wooden arms - fell off. There was no way to get at the screws without taking the upholstery apart and so I used that glue to stick it back on. It's still holding to this day and as its my favourite chair it gets used daily.
Jess, I have seen the magazine and it's quite expensive, you do get a "free" die but I would rather spend my money on a die which I could choose myself.
I used to buy a few crafting magazines but came to the conclusion that the free gifts were often not something I would normally want, and now if there is something which I think I would use then I occasionally buy the magazine.
Michele, hope you are over your jet lag now, enjoy your crafting.
Jess would you like to come and start on my flat, it is screaming to be redecorated.
Right I think I have just heard the washing machine doing its final spin so I had better crack on.

  15. Hello Sandra and All who pass by!
It's taken a while to get here but I'm here now!
Lynda - I love your card. It's a great photo and a super man card and one that will be kept forever! It has certainly made me think too. I think your idea may be pinched!
Well it's school club again today! Apparently there was mayhem last week as there was no craft! The children love to do it! Even some nice colouring would have kept them happy. I'm afraid I'm not going down the road of preparing craft for when I'm on holiday! I volunteer for this job!! However I'm not completely nuts - careful Muriel!
Anne - I hope Spain is still lovely and sunny! Have a great holiday.
Norah - miss you - hope you are well and not tired out from all your hard work before the wedding!
Janice - miss you too! Mind you you may have the Scottish half term holidays to deal with just now! Take care!
Sheila - hope you feel a bit better too. Miss you .
    Lots of love to everyone,

Lynda I just love the card you made for a Terry. Must say I love the high vis jacket he's wearing.
I was promoted at school today as I got to read the class a story after playtime while the teacher was out. Not to sure why the two TA's voted for me to do it though. I also helped the children doing maths as well today, so wasn't able to get a lot of readers done, as the ones I did today were the ones that needed a lot of extra help. Loved it.

  20. Hello Sandra and everyone,
LYNDA, What a great card for Terry I'm sure he loved it. I like using photographs on cards. One I made for daughter and SIL wedding anniversary, I used a picture I had taken of them together in evening dress. I then embossed there names, (this was in the days of light boxes and brass stencils, - sounds like Old Testament! ) onto white card, this made up part of the frame for the picture. I have to say I was pleased with the result. Another time I liked the design on some tissue paper, I photographed it and printed it out on to linen effect card, but mutted the colour, that was used quite a lot on cards I made.
Sorry have to move now, it's school run today. To get myself organised.

Same here, all meals freshly made, though I do tend to batch cook for the days I don't feel like cooking. I was given a big book of recipes at the Brest Care Centre, full of healthy eating tips, cosmetics and toiletries etc. Also a big list of what NOT to use, anything with phthalates, colourants, phenoxyethanol, parabens, aluminium, zinc and benzoates, especially deodorants and antiperspirants. My sister found me a product called Pit Rock which is a natural stone that you wet and use instead on freshly washed skin. Also changed to Sanex ZERO% products. Works fine for me. xxx

  24. Hi and good afternoon everyone,

Well our walk was not as planned, we couldn't even get out of our village! The traffic was queued in both directions. We had a roundabout installed last year at a notorious corner( Sanford) at the end of Cannington Straight. Too many idjits were not slowing down to take the rather sharp corner (both ways) and we have had several really nasty accidents and deaths. This was built at great expense to EDF. It is now under repair, the middle is collapsing. Apparently Plan A was refused by the Highway Department so Plan B came into being, this was accepted and the roundabout was started. However following complaints that the longer lorries, buses and coaches could not safely drive around (going into Bridgwater) the roundabout and had to resort to using some of the central island resulting in broken kerbstones. However this was when they found out that Plan A was the design given to the contractors not Plan B!!! Major cock-up from the Taunton Planning Dept. And these peeps/idjits get mega money! So they had to make the central island smaller. All went to plan u n t i l the middle started to collapse from the weight of said traffic. Now they have to repair that (and personally if I was EDFG, I'd be asking for my money back). We have another two weeks to go before they reopen the whole roundabout. Trouble is it is the only we can get to town and onwards and these country roads were not designed to take the amount of traffic we have now, thanks to John (thumper, smack everyone in the face)Prescott stating "We WILL build on Green Belts, they will not be protected now, WE need the land for housing"
Result: we found some old Cannington Walk Maps and went for a pleasant sunny, warm with mild winds, walk alongside the River Parrett to the next village, Combwich, 3 1/2 miles in all. Thought we'd have a spot of lunch in the Anchor Inn, only to find it closed until Friday! And this happens every week apparently.
Luckily on our way out of Combwich a car stopped beside of us and lo and behold it was one of our ex-landlords who kindly stopped and gave us a lift home.
And now 4 o'clock the rain has started so I am ensconced in my craft room, I have all of October's B/cards to do and continue my Christmas cards.
    Love 7 hugs

  26. Cheryl, my husband spent nearly a year down at Bodmin way surveying all over for the by pass, this was nearly 30 years ago, he nearly made him self Ill over the work, as the planners wouldn't listen to him telling them the way they wanted to go was wrong! Anyway 5 years ago we went that way on holiday and he couldn't believe where they had put the by pass? By passes only work if the roads round them can take the traffic before and after. He puts it down to brown envelopes being passed under tables. Land being sold for much, much more than it's worth and a planner sitting on his rear end in an office not once going to walk the site. He has also surveyed for building being built to go back at much later dates to see why they were saying the plans were wrong to find they had built the whole thing wrong as they had read the plan back to front or round the wrong way. No one questioning the fact of why there wasn't the amount of land at the front as the plans stated. No because that was to be at the back . He has even had when they built a motorway from two ends and it didn't meet was out by metres. Millions of pounds wasted. xxx

    3. Oh dare I tell him, I'd better wait till morning. When he worked down there he stayed away for 5weeks and came home for a long weekend FRIDAY -Monday we at that time lived just past Carnoustie which is north of Edinburgh by a good hour and odds drive, He would set off on a Thursday night and drive and stay at friends who lived Birmingham, leave there at 5 in the morning and would get home around just after lunch time. So between working crazy hours and driving up and down then the stress of these stupid planners he aged. He was glad to go away and work 10 months in the middle East. Ok we didn't see one another in that time but there was not the stess. Thank goodness he has retired now.

    4. Im sure brown envelope type deals are the only way planners etc operate these days and it's actually frightening how many mistakes are made isn't it. And it happens time after time! At least John tried to do the right thing, shame there aren't more like him.now.

  28. Well, I've had quite an afternoon! I got myself really worked up . Very silly!
We have a girl called Lucy who comes to After School Club and she is an awful child! Believe me , I don't say that lightly! She is rude, talks non-stop, is cheeky and unkind to other younger , gentler children. At one point I used an expression I haven't used in years! I told her to close her mouth and give her tongue a holiday! Another girl said to me - " you should bring duck tape Miss! " now why didn't I think of that!! I may be getting too old for this lark! How teachers survive today I don't know - I wouldn't last now!

    2. I don't know how any of you cope with some of today's children!!!!
I do not just blame the children it is also the parents. They seem to think it ok for their children to be cheeky, rude and have no respect for other children round them. Adults oh! well! they are not worth bothering about in their eyes.
Well done you Myra I might have had my hands round her throat ...... !!! xxx

    3. Oh Myra, that's not good!!! I know you enjoy teaching the good ones, but I am sorry it's these awful children spoil it every time. At work a couple years ago a friend of mums was staying with her two children and I was horrified at their behavior and language. The day they were leaving I had had enough, the girl wouldn't get In the car , mother was doing the normal " Charlotte sweetie we have to go". Me I went over and said in a stern voice " Charlotte you have been told to get in the car so Do AS YOU ARE TOLD". Well out of her 9 year old mouth came a stream of the most awful language you have heard, I have heard less from a foul mouthed adult? Well that was it a lost the plot and told her what I thought of her, her mother just stood their with her mouth hanging open. She got in that car. Do you know what the mother text me saying it wasn't her fault it was to do with the split up of her and the dad. Me I would have died with embraisment and would have wanted the ground to open up. Anna and Beths mum was horrified not at me but at her friend for not saying a thing to her daughter. So yes the parents in some cases are the problem. Maybe a few weeks of nit going in to help will maybe get the message over that you will not put up with it. Sending you ((((( hugs))))) it does upset us and you were not be silly.

    4. Thank you for providing somewhere to "sound off" . Thank you even more for sympathy! It's really upsetting to see such lack of respect for everything and everyone!
This girl today cannot be shamed , embarrassed or affronted! I've tried! We had a war over her mobile phone to start with! She is 10 yrs old! She has an iPhone and the screen is a mass of cracks! When I asked what had happened I was told she threw at her brother and it hit the wall and then the floor! The war was me telling her to turn it off! No! I said , you either turn it off now or you go home! - " can't there's no one there and you'll get in trouble! " I tried to quietly tell her that she could be excluded and that she had until the count of 5 to give the phone to me - I was told that she needed it! Nonsense and codswallop said I - my phone is in my bag and I wouldn't dream of using it here! You're doing nowt important was the response!! At this point I said - right young lady you have gone too far and she has a letter going home! The sad thing is her Dad is a nice enough chap - just feckless! He told me today - she doesn't really mean it - she's just a bit "mouthy". I told him that I wasn't prepared to be spoken to like that and they'd end up with no craft teacher. She loves craft, says he !! Next week is her final warning . I really don't need this in my life. Xxx

How awful for you, I cannot understand parents these days, having said that we were out at the weekend and had to go up some steps for the restaurant, there was a family waiting to come down, the eldest boy stepped back and waited patiently for me to go up, I thanked him and his reply was " it was no trouble " very polite only nine or ten at most, I said to his Mother "what lovely manners" and she said"they try". It was a real pleasure to find such well mannered children.

This used to be a nice area and my children's friends knew not to to be rude to any of the neighbours but this generation is awful. I always think I should get back into helping at school but if they are like that then No.

Myra, maybe if he finished work early and had her at hime every night he might get a taste of what she is like, they will pick her up,from out of school take her home she will sit in front of the TV eat there and be there till bedtime what will be when she feels like going! They shoundnt have children personal if they can't control them. 9. Anna and Beth were always commented on their manners, I for one always say if someone thanks Me for say holding a door open for them " your welcome" and Anna and Beth are the same, so if you show good manners to children they just do it themselves. But if they hear rudeness it's to them how you act. That's the problem with the young these days well that's what I think. xxx

    10. Exactly, the dinner table is a great place to hear and listen to what your children are doing and thinking. Our Tammy was just saying earlier that the boys had to eat their tea in the front room as kitchen table was covered in things, Derek been building a new kitchen cupboard and everything was upside down, so she felt there just wasn't that chatter over meal time. Xxx

    11. I used to find that when I picked our boys up from school I would get all the news of their day. Come dinner time they were no longer interested so it was up to me to say " tell Daddy about such and such" . Otherwise Daddy would only have heard from me and that wasn't nearly so much fun. Trouble is a lot of people don't think like that any more. Xxx

    13. Beth and Anna would tell me everything in the car going and coming from school etc. up until lately I would cook them their tea and sit with them while they were eating it, so mum and dad never got told anything as when they came home it was bath and bed. I was so glad when they decided to all eat together, don't know if they talk about their day I hope they do. I always had to relay to Charlie what was going on with ours as he was working away so much. xxx

    14. Myra you must have the patients of a saint, that father should be utterly ashamed of both his daughter and himself instead of making excuses.
I am so pleased and proud of our grandson as every year at school he wins the prize for politeness and good manners. If we are out anywhere he always stands back to let others through a door yet it is amazing how some people just walk past him and never say a word of thanks but there are other who do. If there is a lady he will bow and say ladies first! He has had lots hugs and kisses from ladies that are complete strangers! Good manners cost nothing and his mum from the word go has always taught him that. xxx

    15. I thought I was a patient person - but I lost my rag today!!
It's so lovely to see children who behave well - and I too always respond to that! Children need encouragement too - need to know good behaviour is appreciated! You are rightly proud of your grandson! Our youngest grandson yesterday had launched into "please may I get down from the table Grandma " when his older brother interrupted and said " no you can't Grandad is still eating!" We all laughed but manners are important! Xxx

    16. Myra you poor thing! I know what you mean though, some children can be so rude but when you see the parents you know why! I was always quite firm with the children in our class, some children moaned about it but others loved it because they had boundaries. We had one teacher come in and the children were calling him by his first name! He had no discipline over the children and they ran circles around him! The teacher who was on maternity leave came in one day and nearly fainted when she saw what a rabble the class had become! After I left, if I popped into school and my class saw me they used to come up to say hello and tell me they missed me - they were a lovely bunch - they've moved on to big school now! I hope the teacher or head teacher backs you up about her behaviour and the phone! Xxxx

    17. Sorry to hear you have had a bad time yesterday Myra. That girls father should be ashamed of himself and his daughter. There is so little respect these days from some adults, and we all know who children learn from don't we! I am known for my strict but fair ways at Beavers etc. Children have two choices if they are in my care, they can be polite and respectful or they can stay away. I am not prepared to take any rudeness from a child. I have a waiting list that shows I must be doing something right!

  29. Hello, I've just made a birthday card for an honorary aunt who is 101 later this month. Did it very plain, 6" x 6", embossed in one corner (borrowed the folder from a friend) and just cut 1 0 1 in big, shiny royal blue card which I stuck 3 d on the front. Quite plain, but her eyesight is going so I thought that plain would be best.
Myra, I like nuts, now which ones do I like best? Pistachio, cashew, almond, oh I like them all, especially Hazel's and Myra's ha ha.
I keep losing posts and my laptop messages keep wandering around. I don't know what's going on, but I'm not happy!
I am now going to try to beat Patricia at her own game and do some more Christmas Cards, and I have November Birthday and Anniversay cards to do. Thank goodness I only have 3 cards to make for December. Well 2 really as George gets the same one every year - as you all know!
Oh, I thought you'd like to know that I have just about taken the top off my middle finger, left hand, with a scalpel. As Tony Hancock would say, "I must have lost an arm full of blood". It was dripping everywhere, but not on the card, thank the Lord.
Myra, why do we put ourselves through it at school? There is always at least one who winds me up. But, of course, I'm there during lesson time and the Teacher is also there. I've already marked a couple of cards, and I only started back at school last week!!!
Hazel, talking about parents with children. When I was waiting to see the Doctor this morning, a mother came in with a little girl about 3 and a young baby. She was standing talking at the desk and the little girl was swinging on the posts that hold the 4" wide hessian, behind which people are supposed to stand to give the people at the desk privacy. The posts were teetering and the ribbon/hessian stuff was sagging madly, Her mother was talking to the Receptionist and looking at her daughter and didn't say or do anything to her. She was just about finished at the desk when the whole lot fell with an almighty clatter and she just said "Goodbye" to the Receptionist, and said to her daughter "Come on darling"!!!!! Enough said. I could scream with frustration at things like that. No wonder my blood pressure goes sky high!
Right, soap box in corner for next user!!!
Porridge. I make mine in the microwave in a big plastic bowl. I use milk (I'm a Sassenach) but I don't put in the salt until the very end when it's ready. Then I heat some milk, put plenty of sugar on the salted porride, add the hot milk, and enjoy.
I'm away to do some cards, I have to catch up to Patricia, my pride demands it !!!! lol
    See you later.

Now folks if you all keep on taking about Porridge I might have to stay away this evening. The thought of the stuff really turns my stomach!! xxx

    2. Talking about porridge Maureen, doesn't the sugar counteract the salt. I also don't understand why parents just ignore what their children are doing.

    3. Maureen:- please be careful while wielding a Scaple then tend to be rather sharp!!!
I thought I was the only one that re-used Cards!! I do make John a different one for his Birthday but I just bring out the same one each year for Christmas. Don't think he ever really notices. xxx

    4. Maureen! I think your Birthday card sounds ideal! Xxx

  30. Mauren, what are we going to do with you??? You are not meant to take the scalpel to your finger, even my Gillian who uses them all the time doesn't do much damage to herself. I would have been more worried about my finger than the card. A new bit of card can be replaced fingers can't. xxx

  31. Hi Sandra
I've just read what Lynda sails in Mrs B's post about getting Terry's face the right size. I didn't know he had different sized faces. He he only joking, I'm sure you mean you needed it to resize it.

I didn't realise it was a race to see who can get the most Christmas cards done. Well I shall most definitely come last. You are succeeding very well in making me panic.

    2. Hazel, I shall be leaving for the UK in just over two weeks. During that time I have various birthday cards to make. 4 weeks at "home" and then return to Germany. I then have approximately 3 weeks to do all my Christmas shopping, make all my Christmas cards, get them posted and pack up to come "home" again for two weeks at Christmas. Aaaaaaaaggggghhhhhh.

    3. Think the race is my fault ... guilty!!
I said I had done 1/2 of my cards, got them addresses and ready for posting.
Now no one asked how many I was sending out ... I might only have 6 or 8 friends. That would make 3 or 4 cards done. Will leave that thought with you!!! xxx

  38. Who's John Newman?? The finger tip is still on - just. It's the first time in all the years I've used them, that I've hurt myself with a scalpel. I don't even know how I did it, but the worst thing is - I've got blood on one of the Christmas Cards, oh no. I'll give it to Patricia, she's off to bed so will never notice (I hope) ha ha.
Been working like a mad woman on the Christmas cards, still not finished the ones I did last week, but they are all stamped, matted and finished except for the inserts, which are cut to size but not stamped yet. I counted them, and discovered I wanted another four - so off I started again!!!. The backgrounds are done, but I have to stamp and assemble them, then I'll do all the inserts at the same time. Then I'll do something different for the next lot of cards, I've only got another 60 to do - HELP.
    Night, night Patricia, God Bless.
I'll pop back in a minute or two

    2. Maureen I hope your finger is ok - that's not good trying to cut your finger off. Oh dear, can you stick a butterfly or a star over the blob of blood? I've thought about Christmas cards, bought a few dies, and stamps but done nothing about it yet. Must get my hear around them soon! Night night sleep tight xxxxx

  39. Yoo hoo, been to find out who John Newman is, I've still never heard of him!!! Are his songs played on Radio 2? Oh, oh, he has just arrived upstairs so I think I'll have to make my excuses and leave.
I'm pleased Saba finally realised the name she is not allowed to say, we could all be in trouble.
I'll say good night, God bless, sweet dreams, and see you all tomorrow.

Sheila, sending you a big hug and well wishes, hope you soon back with us x
I like porridge and I need a bit of salt in the mix but sugar/ sweeteners on top. My grandma used to make a well in the middle of the porridge and put a big blob of salted butter to make the sun and that kept you going until dinner time.
Off to bed too so I wish you all a good night, see you tomorrow ,hugs Maria xx

  42. I think everyone has gone to bed. It's really wet and chilly here tonight. I'm just going to bed, might take a hot water bottle with me tonight. I had a quick look in The Range today to see what creative expressions things they have got. They had quite a few of Sues dies, they were full price so no bargains to be had today. They might have them in the sale after Christmas though, they don't like to keep stuff usually but might not with them. See you all tomorrow, sweet dreams everyone night night xxxxxx

    2. Hi Diane.. Goid you saw Sue's dies in the Range. Whilst I was in Southend I saw a lot of Creative Expressions things including the Decopatch papers but when I went to the new one at Bracknell they just had Sue's dies and at Reading they didn't have anything and seemed a bit vague as to when they would get them. Don't thing the girl on the customer service desk had a clue what I was asking about. Have to go again on Wednesday so we shall see if they have them then. When a friend if mine went to Creative Expressions in Kettering (she was staying with family) she was served by John and he said that the Range will have all the CE range.
