A little trip to Paris courtesy of Janet

Good Sunday Morning Ladies,
Today I would like to share with you the stunning birthday
card I received from our part time 'Madame' Janet, that makes her sound naughty, (all I actually mean in that she lives part time in France) haha!
I wouldn't know where to start with explaining how Janet designed and made the card, It is an easel style card, with a beautifully decorated tag on each day side.  The papers used to decorate the card were all french themed.
Janet also created the prettiest flower arrangement, there was so much detail in the card, it must have been so much work, the gorgeous little clock face brads were part of the finishing touches, along with beautiful ribbon and pearl strings.
I absolutely loved the card Janet, thank you so very much xx

Now I have to tell you that I was a very lucky lady yesterday,
The postman bought me a parcel that contained the amazing
Sizzix Big Shot Plus, well I was overjoyed as you can imagine.
I took it straight into my craft room to play and then realised how big it is, I ended up spending the rest of the day tidying and organising everything, do you know I have 3, yes 3 huge
'bit boxes' and some of the bits are quite big! I sorted through them all and got rid of some of the bits.  I got the new Dyson out and gave the carpet the cleaning of its life!
I am not sure how many of you have bought the Woodware Die storage folders (black with white spots), well I opened them up tonight, to sort my dies, but I found the magnetic sheet inside the pockets way too flimsy, you would struggle to pull the sheet out and the dies remain in place, so I then spent the next two hours cutting up old mount board up to stick the magnetic sheets to so that it was more sturdy and easier to pull in and out of the pockets, you could also stick another mag sheet on the other side of the mount board too, therefore doubling your storage!  It would be easier however if the magnetic sheet were better quality so that you don't have to spend time and money to make them easier to use.
So hopefully I have made enough room now to sit and play today, I did a couple of die cuts yesterday and I was very pleased with the result and an embossing folder which embossed perfectly all over.
So so far so good!!
I hope you all have a lovely Sunday,
\love and hugs,
Sandra xxxx

  1. Good morning Sandra and the Café Gang. My goodness it's Sunday ... again!!! It seems like only a few days ago it was last Sunday!!
It's dry outside, I do hope it stays that way.
JANET:- love, love, love, your beautiful card and Tags. The papers, colours and your wonderful designs are fantastic.
SANDRA:- you have boxes of bits ..... next time you need a piece of card or paper go to your BIT BOX. I think our first reaction is to go grab a new piece of card. So today why don't you set yourself a challenge. You have a wonderful new Die Cutting machine (lucky lady) see how many cards you can make without using a NEW piece of card or paper.
All good in the Café this morning, nice new flowers on the tables and the place smells great. Someone has put bread and rolls in the oven can you guess who that might be!!! .... Mmmmm!! i just love that smell.
Talking about baking, Robert and I made Margaret "Cs" Butter Biscuits yesterday they were Yummmy!!! There were 4 left in my box when I went off to bed last night bet there are a couple missing. John usually makes himself a cuppa before coming to bed around midnight bet he ate a couple. Robert went home with quite a few for his mum, thank goodness or I would eat then all they are so good.
(((((hugs))))) in the basket as usual. Off to sit over in the corner with my Tea & Toast. Nothing much on the cards for me this morning. John is off to a Model Railway Show later. I might get him to drop me off at Hobbycraft (I have a voucher to spend) then pick me up from Dunelm's coffee shop when he has finished ... will see!!! See you all later. xxx

    1. Good morning Patricia,
Oh those biscuits sound yummy, I love anything buttery! But for me it has to be salted butter, while we stay over in France we always buy a pack of butter they sell tat has big crystals of sea salt in it, food of the gods in my opinion!!
You are quite right Patricia, I should make a bit box card, I haven't made one for a while, it is easier and more natural to reach for new card when we think about starting a new project! Some pieces of card are almost complete, just had a square cut out or a little piece for a sentiment.
Could you do me a huge favour, while you are in Hobbycraft could you look to see if they sell a silicone mat for the Big Shot Plus, I may give me tan mat ago today!
It's just for embossing dies, the A4 embossing folders emboss like a dream!
Enjoy your shopping trip, shall we all meet you outside hobbycraft and go shopping together?!
      If only!
      Hugs
      Sandra xxxx

    2. SANDRA:- if I go to Hobbycraft I will certainly look a Silicone mat for you.
Margaret's biscuits are brilliant, I am a person who absolutely HATES butter, marg or any kind of spreads but these biscuits are so Yummmyy!! I would not know the difference between Salted or unsalted butter, the smell of the stuff turns my stomach xxx

  2. Good morning ladies, Nic is still fast asleep at the moment so I'm having a quiet cuppa here.
Sandra are you lucky or what, would love the big shot plus but I've not enough room to house one, it is a big machine and sturdy as well. I took over the small bedroom as a craft room and every space is used.
Janet your card is beautiful, love the papers you have used and the tags are a great idea, wouldn't have thought of that.
Nic and I called at the Range yesterday on our travels and I bought two dies by Sweet Dixie, a candle and a stocking, they are such a good size and are gorgeous cut out, I maybe back
Patricia, enjoy your trip to Hobbycraft and then Dunelm, I like shopping there.
Don't know what we'll do today, will decide when everyone gets up, hope it stays dry though, I think its forecast dry for a few days.
I'm now going to read back over yesterday's comments, but it's such a chatty place I may not get through everything haha.
I've left hugs in the basket - feel free to take them if you need to
When Nic goes home after tea we are getting the stair carpet up and painting ready for new stair carpet on Tuesday so I may not be back today,
Take care everybody and gave a lovely day whatever you do.

  3. Morning/Afternoon to all who may pop in today.

Sandra - What a wonderful surprise for your yesterday that lovely husband of yours is more than a treasure. Well I don't have to tell you that do I!!!
Hope you get to have a really good play today and put that new machine through its paces. I've never used one so will be interested to see what you think.

Patricia - enjoy your trip or peace and quiet at home this morning whichever you choose. I'd be staying in for the peace and quiet as yesterday just seemed to be one lot of noise after another.

Sandra - I'm so pleased you liked your birthday card. All it is is just a square card with two tags attached to each side. The papers to cover the base card and tags are from a 8x8 Madame Payraud's pack 32 sheets 2x16 designs- they also do a 6x6. I have to admit a really do love this range of paper pads as they have such a good selection of subjects as well as one or two plain coloured sheets for backing. Some of the sheets are also so useful for those awkward men cards eg architecture, bird watching, butterfly collecting.
The brads, flowers and string of pearls came from my stash boxes. The swirls are of course one of Sue Wilson's dies and the ribbon through the tags came from a pack I bought from 'The Works' book shop in Meadowhall. The ribbon across the base 'flowers to make you smile' came from 'The Range' as did the tags.
I suppose the card could come into the challenge of using only one die - the swirls. I hope you all like it.

All booked for Wednesday now ferry and hotel so just the other stuff to do.
We're off to Christina's today so it's lunch out in Bakewell and then on to Hognaston for the afternoon to see how much further the builders have got with the utility room extension they're having done and to take her some old towels/t-towels and newspapers etc which she uses for the Hedgepigs and other small animals they get in. So I'll be absent for the rest of the day.
Have a good Sunday everyone whatever you all decide to do. I've deposited my usual load of hugs for everyone.
    xxxx

Have a great day today, I hope the utility room extension is nearly finished. xxxx

  4. Morning Ladies

Janet-your card to Sandra is quite stunning. It's truly a work of art & one to be kept.

Sandra-sounds like you had a busy day yesterday. Once you start tidying & clearing in the craft room it becomes a major job, or it does for me! All this talk of new/replacement die cutting machines makes me want to join in. I have a pink G C (second one) which is working fine and I have an original cuttlebug which is in perfect working order. I don't have too for anything else so will make do with the two I have. I'm going to buy another set of plastic storage drawers as I've only just worked out that I can add more to the ones I already have. I'm desperate to get stuff off the floor so my only way is UP!!!! Hubby's away on Tuesday so I'll call at Homebase before getting weighed then I have all evening to re-arrange things.

Ironing & weeding need doing today-not very exciting, would rather be crafting. Maybe after dinner I'll head up to the craft room.

Janet, your card is wonderful, you used some lovely papers and the embellishments are beautiful.
Sandra, I was delighted last night when you told me that you have got the Big Shot Plus. I hope you get to put it through its paces today in your tidy craft room.
Brenda littlelamb, I hope you have a chance to test yours out as well. Have fun and let us know what you think of it please.
I have just been reading yesterday's comments and must add my bit to the others about you Norah. Save your money and have a holiday, permanently, from that nasty piece of work please.
Saba and Myra, have your voices recovered from your chat yesterday, once you managed to finally get the phone issue sorted : )
We had a lovely day at the fishing lake. Both girls were so good and very patient happily watching their floats for almost 4 hours apart from a 20 minute break for Paige (she is only 4 after all)when she had a little walk with me to look for some blackberries which were eaten before we got home : ) Phoebe caught 3 little Perch and caught a Cray fish but it fell off the hook as she lifted it out and Paige had a big fish grab her line very hard as it took the maggot but it got away, she was thrilled anyway, bless her. They would have stayed longer, we were amazed at just how patient they both were.
I must go and get ready for church parade with the Beavers for the Harvest service, and I've just remembered that I need to clean my boots! Have a good day everyone. Take care xx

  9. Hi Sandra and all the lovely ladies
Sorry I was AWOL yesterday but we went to Ally Pally again for the knitting and stitching show with Julian's mum ( I was very careful when I walked in honestly!). Oh it was soooooo busy, you had to shuffle walk around. We stayed in Salisbury overnight and went from there to make it easier for Jean but by the time we got home we were really shattered. There was so much wool and fabric this year but not so much cross stitch but we all managed to spend money! I brought some beautiful chunky wool and a bracelet kit, Julian bought a new lamp and some beaded Christmas decorations and Jean bought books fabric wool kits and patterns galore! It was a good day. We've been going to that show for years so it was very odd with out Emma but we did send her a photo of our sausage sandwich ( it's a tradition on arrival! ).
Michele your cards and the photo of your family were lovely yesterday, thank you for sharing them with us, yet another face to name! Xxxx
Janet was super cards, love the papers you have used, I thought I was in France - funnily enough I was looking at fabric in this style yesterday, it's gorgeous ( and obviously on trend!). Thank you for sharing xxx
Your new machine sounds fabulous Sandra can't wait to hear about it from you and Brenda . That had the big shots at the show yesterday with the patchwork dies - it's interesting to see another use, Jean bought another die and will borrow my little big shot again to cut out squares. She's making quilts for the hospital nursery at the moment so that will save her loads of time.
Well I had better get myself sorted - I'm still in my pjs having a lazy time but I need to go out for some more milk ( don't worry I will get dressed!) and then a bit of gardening is in order before I get my knitting out to have a look at, find the right needles etc. I'm going to have a quick look back through yesterday's comments but I hope everyone is ok. See you all later xxx.

  15. Hello Sandra and gang
Well I've commented on the way down so not much to say really.
IBe been busy cleaning the silver. Well epns to be more precise. It's a tankard which my father won for dominos in the 1950s and I have decided to give it to Joanne to pass down to Oliver. It was black so I googled how to clean it and found an amazing way to do it safely. Bucket, lined with tin foil shiny side up, a dash of baking powder and boiling water and put it in for 20 mins, making sure it is touching the foil and I cannot believe how shiny it is now. There are still two yellow marks on it which I suspect is where the silver may have worn thin, but overall a fabulous shiny tankard.
That's it for now. Peter is twittering about me clearing a space on the dining room table for him to do some paperwork so I had better jump to it and will click my heels together at the same time.
    Xxxx

    1. Can I ask how much baking powder? Have my great Aunts silver tea pot, milk jug and sugar bowl to do, they are also gone quite dark. Would a tablespoon be OK? Thanks

      Delete
    2. I , too, use that method for bulky bits and cutlery. I line my washing up bowl - an old one and add quite a lot of baking powder. A tablespoon sounds ok - you can't add too much as it won't harm anything. Hope this helps. Xxx

    3. Myra has answered your question Lilian and I just guessed my baking powder but I suppose it would have been about a tablespoon. Good luck.

I got a phone call last week asking me to make 6 Pendants for Christmas. Thank goodness I got plenty of warning on this one. I had to get some beads from Hazel I was running short. We used to buy beads in bulk but with not making so many we have tried to share our beads. You can buy beads in Hobbycraft but they are so expensive. We sell just the pendant .. no Torque or Band for £15 we would have had to put that up to £20 is we bought beads from shops.
Anyway 3 made just 3 more to go that will be done another day my hands are sore.
It is so blooming cold here, the heating is on and so are my very short UGG boots, my feet were freezing!!
Tea has heated me up, off to get a move on with some other things. xxx

SANDRA You lucky lady! A friend of mine bought the Sizzix at April's AP and she loves it I've yet to have a play with it I have bit boxes galore but they're always in a mess even though I try to keep similar colours together As I use Serif a lot if there's enough space on a page before I print it I will add "materials" for a specific idea but then when I come to look at it and play I can never remember why I'd printed it!

  20. Hello Sandra,
Hello friends - trust we are having a good day!
I'm have a topsy turvy kind of day but it's not unpleasant!
Today's lovely Birthday card is gorgeous. I have left a message above but it just looks so French and that's how it was meant to look! Mine don't always turn out like that!
Well, I've been getting a box ready for the Retreat! I don't want to be looking for things at the last minute. We are going to Son and DIL for two nights this week and that is just a little further down the road from the Retreat. So I will get a look at Roadworks etc! Parts of the M6 are being turned into a smart motorway! When they have finished we will be able to use the hard shoulder and all four lanes are controlled by speed . The M42 is like that already and the M25. It does seem to keep the traffic flowing more. At the moment though their are roadworks!!
    Be good everyone!
    Lots of love, Myra xxx

  21. Good afternoon my little coffee shop cherubs,
Janet i love the paper that you have used in Sandra's lovely card as it has that old fashioned feel about it when pictures and colours were just like this. It reminds me of some of my scraps that i got as a wee girl and put into my scrapbook. Jim got a dinky car if he was good and i got some new scraps or a new colouring in book and new pencils, it was like my birthday come early when mum had that wee bit spare that she could treat us. Quite commonly it was when Jim needed new shoes because he had taken the toes out of them climbing everything in sight or new trousers for the same reasons. Mum would never buy one of us and not get a wee thing for the other but she could never afford to buy both of us at the same time as her and dad just weren't that well off at all. I know that life is so much better for the youngsters now but sometimes i have my doubts as there was nothing wrong in having to wait for something as it just wasn't possible to get it there and then but we did look after what we did get(bar Jim and his clombing adventures). Children these days seem to get things far to readily and they don't seem to have the same appreciation for them like we did. Ok soap box put away again, sorry. Sandra i bet you get much more fun from your new toy than Paul ever will with his, LOL.
Now talking about silicone mats, i use the one that was intended for my cooker over but since i had two of them it is much better use to me on my table but the brain went wandering again and came up with the exercise bands that you stretch and don't let go quickly as you'll end up with a corker of a slap from it, they are made from silicon as well and are quite handy from using in the same way, its worth a try flower.
Well i have sat and finished the wee man's aran set for the wedding, cut out, coloured and promarkered veins on to a sheet of roses and made them up into the various sizes. This lot are white and pink but i think i might just make up some other colours as they have actually worked out for a change, although i still want to give some more definition to the petals with my pliers. I was going to make a card for my next door neighbour who is in having a hysterectomy hence the flowers as you are not allowed to take flowers into hospital any more( well at Forth Valley Royal), anyway i was making a start when OH pipes up that i better make a card for next door as she is in. Not are you going to or i think maybe you might want to, but i had better so all inclination has went right out of the window. He natters more to Lorna(NDN) than he ever speaks to me and laughs and jokes with her and then comes back in the house in the same crabbit way he went out before clapping eyes on her. Anyway i am not going to get myself all worked up over him as he is just not worth it so i will see you all after and have a good day everyone. I have put the huggles into the basket
    Love and crafty hugs

  22. TOP TIP, silver jewellery does not go that dull black colour so quickly if you put some of the silica bags that come with bags, purses etc. You know the tiny white ones that are only maybe about 1/2" x 1". Also, if you can do your silver the way Saba said, it stops "rubbing" and the silver doesn't go thin. Our downstairs maid explained it all to me!!!!
Saba and Myra, I didn't know I was talking German!!! I only know Auf Weidersein, Dumpf Kopf, Doppleganger, Gooden Morgen and Schnell - I didn't say I could spell ha ha.
Must away to wash the dinner dishes. The Butler has been sitting too long, time for him to done his rubber gloves (that'll be the day)
Hazel, it's cold and dank here, although the sky is just starting to clear, but it'll be dark soon. I thought Australia would be nice this time of the year lol.
See you ladies later. Be good (I live in hope)

I also bought little trinket boxes for my granddaughters and nieces. They have a lining which prevents silver from tarnishing. Now if you put dirty silver bits inside it won't clean them but it will keep clean ones clean!! I also put little bags in my cutlery drawer in the dining room. The kitchen lot are stainless steel and we use them most. I was given silver cutlery though in presents!! I have a big clean of it 3 times a year! It takes ages! Xxx

  26. Hi everyone, been at scrapbooking crop today sorry I'm late, I have been commenting on the way down. The chat today was (don't read this Patricia) pegging out the washing using different coloured pegs, someone had bought new pegs, they were pink and yellow, and has hung the washing out with the pegs in order, pink, yellow, pink, yellow, then decided she was having a meltdown about the arrangement of the pegs, and decided to do pink, pink, yellow, yellow etc., then thought what the h..l am I doing and started to use the pegs as they came out of the peg bag, it was so funny as two or three of the other ladies said the same thing about their washing, I immediately thought of you Patricia!!,!
Sandra have fun with your new toy, no doubt we will get an update soon.
Patricia where does John go for the railway exhibition, I know they have one in Falkirk at the High School, if it is that one we could meet up at Dunelm for coffee. Then have a look in Hobbycraft, don't know if you know that The Range is coming to the retail park in Falkirk, they are taking over the store that Homebase had.
Well better go and think about dinner.

  27. Good afternoon ladies,

Apologies for my absence, I have been ill since yesterday, only just now suitably recovered enough to visit this moment.
Day started off fine although I was alternating between tropical moments and freezing cold. I cooked a lovely honey roast gammon for myself and Jamie, (whilst he was cutting the front hedge) we both enjoyed every morsel of it.
An hour later, my temperature dropped suddenly and I had to dash for the throne. Have not been that ill for simply ages. Raging temp and stomach pains all night.
My apologies for my absence yesterday.
OMW Michele, what can I say about your artistic alternative cards that everyone else has not already said?. And it is so lovely to put a face to your name now. Your family photo is beautiful, no wonder you visit them so much, the children are adorable.

Janet's card is stunning, you are one very lucky lady to receive it Sandra.

I have read your comment re the Retreat and have checked my emails but I cannot find one from you. Do you have a list of all that are going? I would like to take a leaf out of Patricia's book and bring my Christmas cards too to save on the postage costs also.
Karen, I have not received an email from you either from last week?

  43. Well,I am still here Brenda. Are you? Glad I haven't got to get up for the school run tomorrow. Don't have to do it so much now. Hope to play with the Big Shot tomorrow. It's funny I often feel like this on a Sunday. Go to Church in the morning and feel good, then have coffee after with friends but then it's home to an empty house for the rest of the day and I cannot settle to anything. Will be ok tomorrow no doubt.

    1. Hi Brenda, when you feel lonely then come to the cafe' and have a chat with anyone who are in, you know we are here and we are pretty good listeners, pardon ?
Have a nice day playing with your big shot, hope it is working fine.
I saw three different sizes in Hobbycraft and tried lifting the one on the shelf and couldn't do it. Maybe it was stuck down or I gone weak anyhow it was a big machine.
