Happy 60th Birthday Sam!!! & Sue's amazing gift!

HAPPY 60TH BIRTHDAY
SAM

We all hope that you have the most amazing birthday in Mauritius,
Love from all of your friends here on the blog!
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

 Good |Morning Ladies,
I want to share with you today this amazing gift, from the most amazing friend!
I spoke to Sue soon after the 'phone call' last week, with Paul being away, I felt helpless but Sue had all the time in the world to listen and reassure me, like any lifelong friend would, she just listened and made me realise how ridiculous the comments actually were!
Between Sue and Pat both listening and giving me advice, I feel a little more comfortable about the situation, thank you my lovelies!
Anyway when we got over to Sue's today, we unpacked our things and Sue came across and gave me the biggest hug and handed me this amazingly created box, inside the box was this stunning card!
The reassurance of the message inside the card will stay with me forever, I tried my hardest to hold in my tears as I didn't want the floodgates open again this week, but it was a close thing, I had that ache in my throat, Sue you have no idea how much your kind words meant, thank you so very much xx
The leaves of the Ivy looked so realistic as Sue had coated them in Pinflair Glaze, a little tip from Sue here, she originally tried Glossy Accents but that started to draw the colour from leaves, but the Pinflair Glaze didn't do it, so that's always a good alternative to have on standby, I believe it comes in a little bottle like nail varnish (including the Brush), the gloss on the leaves just lifts the die cut so much!
Sue used the Californian Dies to make the focal element of the card and finished with the new Canadian Tag, from the Creative Expressions Canadian Border, Tag & Corner set.
Sue then stamped the little sentiment in the centre of the tag.
Now the box, looked like it had been bought, it was made perfectly, very sturdy too, the ones I have made using Centura Pearl can sometimes lack stability, this one however was good and strong.
It was so lovely to receive a 'just because' card, perfectly timed, such a huge lift Sue, thank you so much once again xx

Well that's it from me today, thanks for all of your hints and tips yesterday, some fab tips shared !
Yesterday was made special in other ways yesterday too, Obviously we had the news of Milly May's
arrival, Maria's birthday and the other fantastic news was Pat's Pete's PSA levels, would amazing news, so positive, the new drugs are clearly making a difference, so you can go off to Italy on Saturday, with a little less weight on your shoulders, I couldn't be more pleased, Have an amazing holiday together, take lots of photos!!
Do you think Hazel has come across any 'Mounties' yet???? Calm now Margaret!!xx
Have a lovely day everyone, must dash, bottles to make, lambs to feed!
Love and Hugs
Sandra

  1. Good morning Sandra & ladies,

It's a beautiful sunny day here in my corner of Somerset and I'm feeling on top of the world. It is so lovely to have 5 generations back in our family.

Many, many congratulations on your 60th Birthday Sam. I wish for you to have a day of peace, happiness and the love of family and friends.

Sandra, what a beautiful gift from Sue. I'm so glad you are now out of the doldrums, we all care for you and don't like to see you unhappy or plagued with self-doubt. Forget all that has passed, don't let it cloud your enjoyment of sharing your wonderful gift of Friendship with us. If it wasn't for you , we would not have got to know each other so well or even met up on blind dates. So my young lady, relax, exhale, breathe and escape the negative remarks of the other day. You have us here walking beside you every day.
    Love & hugs

  2. Good morning Sndra and the Coffee Shop Gang. Hope you are all TickeyBoo!! and happy.
A bit later this morning, slept longer. John and I met up with old friend and working partner of John's last night. Stayed rather longer than expected as you do??
Right Sandra how lucky are you?? Great friends are a treasure and you have loads especially having Pat & Sue so close by. Take there and others advice and just get on with things. Life is far too short to bother about petty incidents. We had lots of other great news yesterday as well as your ABSOLUTELY STUNNING card. Oh! My! Word it's a beauty, I would be getting a box frame for that one.
PAT:- was delighted to read the great test results, have a wonderful holiday, enjoy every single moment of it.
SAM:- Happy Birthday to you. I know you are on holiday and being spoilt rotten. You enjoy every moment of that as well.
Actually we should all be enjoying every moment of every day ..... waking up every day is a Bonus.
Tables all done, goodies out, (((((hugs))))) in basket by the door and I am off to have my breakfast.
Hazel has landed but i doubt if she's had time to get that Mountie yet.
Be good, see you all later. xxx

  4. Hi Sandra and all the lovely ladies
Sandra what a beautiful card and what a lovely gesture from a dear friend. As you say you have only known Sue and Pat for a short while but it seems a lifetime. Isn't it great when you meet people like that. Thank you for the ivy tip Sue, I know the stuff you mean- often wondered whether nail varnish would work too but not tried it! That ivy is gorgeous isn't it. Sandra it sounds like those little lambs are keeping you busy but that's good because it gives you something to focus on. Take care though and don't overdo it xxx
Pat I did say last night what great news about Petes results but just in case you didn't see it here it is again xxxx
Sam happy birthday lovely lady, you don't look a day over 21. Hope you have a fantastic day and you are spoilt rotten - at least the sun will be shining for you xxx
Now Muriel and Margaret don't get too excited about the Mountie Hazel has only just arrived so she will want to look around. If she gets him too soon he will have to stay in her case and will get creased - Hazel won't like that! Also she has to get him out of the country before he's reported missing! And if she's bringing the horse too - well you wouldn't want that in your case too long!!!!
Cheryl I can feel your happiness from here, hope you get baby cuddles soon xxx
Brenda hope you are ok this morning after your news last night. Sending you a big hug xxxx
Right I must get on, tea and toast was just what I needed today thank you. Money is in the pot. I've had an email to say PYO strawberries are due to start this weekend so there will be a basket of strawberries to share soon.
Hope you all have a lovely day.

    1. Oh yummy, I love strawberries!
We have 3 almost ripe ones in the poly tunnel! They really are the first taste of summer, although I think I slightly prefer raspberries!
I clearly remember as a child, going to pick strawberries with my Mum and eating so many that I got a rash all over my face and arms!
I think that Farmers should weigh you in and out !
But you do have to try them!

    5. Oh Diane! I was a little confused - only briefly! I was confusing farmers and Mountie's! Easy mistake to make! I'll put my specs on! Xxx

Morning Sandra and all who call in today.
What a beautiful and wonderful gift for you. Sue has done herself proud.
Please as Cheryl says put last week well behind you and look forward thinking of all the fantastic things you are going to be doing this Summer. We are always there beside you every day as without you we wouldn't have this wonderful cafe or have made so many wonderful friends even though some of us haven't yet had our blind date.

Sam even though you are sunning yourself and having that well deserved holiday have a very happy 60th birthday.
Pat I'm so please your news was good yesterday and you and Pete can now thoroughly enjoy Italy next week.
Hazel you'd better watch out or Muriel and Margaret will increase their order for Mounties.
Cheryl 5 generations what an achievement.( I'm afraid ours is only 4) I can see that beautiful white cloud you're sat on thoroughly enjoying your wonderful family.

Well we have a very dull morning at the moment and so I think I might just have a go at something I've not tried yet in the crafting world. I've wanted to try book folding for a little while now as it fascinates me so I have a simple pattern to start with. It's going to be quite traumatic as I absolutely love books and have always treat them with the utmost care and even shouted at people who turn corners down or mis-treat them. I do not let anyone borrow any of my books. But I want to see if I can achieve something reasonable. Will definitely need a strong drink after.
Thank you for the latte - good mix as usual so money is in the pot and mug washed and dried. Hugs are in their usual place.
Will let you know how I am later.

    1. Hi Janet,
Just an idea, go to a charity shop and ask for books that they were going to get rid of, that way you are rescuing and upcylcling the book rather than destroying it, although you do Create something beautiful, it looks far too fiddle for me!
Remember to photograph your finished piece !

    2. Janet, I really want to have a go at the book folding "words". I have done a few Christmas Trees but they are really easy. I feel the words will be more of a challenge.
I will go to the Charity Shop for the books I could NOT bear to use any of mine. xxx

    3. Hi Janet, I know what you mean, and if anyone bends the front and back covers back, so that the spine of the book cracks, I cringe. Folded corners on pages or any misuse drives me mad. (well madder than usual!!!!) xxx

    4. I totally agree! Maybe you should note that in your notebook! That we are in agreement today , that is! Xx

    5. Oh Janet do let us know how you get on, I fancy having a go at it too but can't bear to 'damage' books! Xxx

    6. I started book folding last week, I went and got some books from a jumble sale , the have to be at least 20cm. high and the pattern tells you how many pages. I t is different as you do not have a table full of papers and dies etc. just a book and a ruler. I am making the word dad on mine and giving it to my step grandchildren for there dad they can decorate the cards for the back and front of the book and I will glue the cards they make on. xx

As you can see I'm up and about quite early for me! Well, there is a reason for that! I am expecting the the burglar alarm engineer any minute! Annual Service time! Ugh! It has to be done but it 's all that noise as he tests everything!
What a gorgeous card Sandra and a beautiful box as well! I can well imagine how you felt! What a lovely thought and a beautiful gift to treasure! I think the Just Because sentiment is so very useful.
    Got to go!
    He's here!

Sam many congratulations on your 60th birthday and what a wonderful place to be celebrating it in....have a very special day.....oh and don't forget your bus pass when you arrive back home! Lol! Enjoy your wonderful holiday.
Sandra what a beautiful gift of a stunning card in a a box to receive from Sue and although we don't know what the words were they obviously had true meaning....you have alot of good friends in the coffee shop who will always be by your side.
So pleased Hazel arrived safely in Canada and hope she can find a handsome mountie for Maureen....have a great holiday Hazel.
Cheryl hope you have managed to have a cuddle with your beautiful new great-grandaughter.
Here's to a lot more happy days for Sandra and the cafe crew. Bless each and everyone of you.
I'm off to the hairdressers today....I have known Julie, my hairdresser, for about 15 years now and she has always had the knack of lifting my spirits so I always feel much better when I walk out of there.
Enjoy the rest of the day everyone, I will try and pop in later...I've left plenty of those special hugs in the basket so please help yourselves.

  8. Good morning Sandra and all our lovelies,
Sandra what a lovely thoughtful gesture, I am not surprised it moved you so much. It is a lovely card, beautifully made and given with love, what more could anyone ask for.
I'll just help myself to my usual latte and will try one of Patricia's goodies.
SAM, Happy Birthday, hope you have a wonderful day, but being in Mauritius I can't think of anything you could do to make it even more fantastic, but I bet there is something planned!
Brenda (little lamb) I hope you are feeling a little better this morning and that passing on the sad news won't be too difficult for you.
Cheryl, 5 generations, how amazing is that. Please make sure you get a really good photo and have it printed. So many photos are now only stored on electronic devices and it would be such a shame if Milly May didn't have a copy to treasure when she is grown up.
Diane, I am not sure whether nail varnish would work but seeing as it's chemistry revision today perhaps you can look at the formula lol.
Janet, I am just like you regarding books. Peter often makes little notes in his or underlines something he might want to refer to later. He once did it in MY dictionary when he spotted a spelling error. I can tell you this, he had to peel me down from the ceiling and he never did it to one of my books again. But good luck with your project, they are fun and the first fold is the most painful.

I have just been insulted and I can't stop giggling. Phone rang, I didn't recognise the number so answered in my queens English ...hello. It puts the german cold callers off. Well this one spoke American English with a very strong hint of Asian
Accent. First off him ... Good morning madam could you please speak English to me. My repy...Why? Him.... You are having a very big problems with your computer. Me...I don't have a computer. At which point I started to laugh.
Him....madam, why are you laughing like a demented old witch. He then put the phone down on me!!! Cheeky thing, still it's given me a giggle.
Right must get on, latte was lovely and so was Patricia's little goodie.
Hazel have a lovely day, hope you are not too jet lagged, or does that happen when you come back, not sure, I have never done trans Atlantic.

    See you all later.

BRENDA, thinking of you and sending you a big hug, I was so sorry to read about your Aunty, what a shock. Now you have to pass on the news to the rest of your family. Not a pleasent task. Xxx
Oh Sandra what a beautiful gift from Sue, her timing was perfect, she really is a true friend, as is Pat, you have been truly blessed with these special ladies coming into your life.
This morning I am taking Ciara to a funeral Mass, she is one of the alter servers, other children from her class (yr 4) will make up the choir. It is the funeral for the
Husband of the teaching assistant in her class.
We have talked it all through so hope all of these children will be alright.
NORAH it was lovely to see you pop in yesterday, even better to know you are OK . LOL
Well better move myself, herself wants me to do her hair with a curling wand,

Wow, that's a big job a such a little girl, will this be her first funeral Mass?
I guess it's a good thing that they understand the process of life, I expect she will be asking a lot of questions!
      Good
Good luck with the curling wand!
It's an art in itself, I sometimes wish I had trained as a hairdresser, the money I would have saved, Sophie & Lucy both have hair way down their backs, Lucy curls hers every morning before school! But they aren't into make up, they will wear a little concealer to cover a blemish, but they don't wear anything else, some of the girls in their year are plastered in make up!
      Hope all goes well,
      Hugs

    2. Hi Sandra,
Pleased to say Ciara and her classmates carried out their duties extremely well, I was very proud of all of the children. The service was really moving, Glad I had put tissues in my bag!
Managed to use the curling wand, fingers only slightly burnt !!! The hair looked quite pretty, not to over done. She must have been pleased with the result, as the comment on completion was - I wish my hair looked like this every day! So that was nice. BUT when all the servers came down the church to escort the coffin up to the altar, it was pulled back into a pony tail. When I asked later why? Oh the other girls all had their hair tied back. Children !!!!! It still fell nicely in spiral curls though. Love and Hugs Brenda xxx

No doubt he has gone go the hospice. I phoned to tell my sister who was also shocked and said she also didn't know about it. Well if one of us knew we would definitely tell the other one. 14. Good morning Sandra and all the coffee shop crew
Firstly SAM wishing you a very Happy Birthday, hoping you are having the most wonderful time in your special place you love so much, have a fantastic day enjoy every minute of it.
Sue thank you so much for making Sandra such a beautiful and wonderful card it has lifted her spirits so much.
Sandra thank you for sharing your most wonderful and very beautiful card, but yes I know that feeling when you are trying so hard to keep the tears in. What ever Sue said inside your card keep those words close to you and keep remembering them when you need to. You are doing really well and deservedly so, after all you yourself have done for everyone else, bring so many lovely and considerate people together in such a unique way and creating such a wonderful friendship circle. Don't worry is one of the easiest things to say and one of the hardest to do, and you have done so well, but I always tell folk no matter what I am still breathing, time to worry is when I stop!! Keep that chin up, except when you're crafting that is.
Saba I now have a picture of a seedy little greasy man, sitting in a dirty little room, telephoning people ugh!!! If we get any calls like that I just say hold on and put the phone down and just leave them waiting after five minutes check to see if they are still there and if they are say sweetly sorry to keep you waiting your call is important to us, and leave them again, they very rarely call back.
By the way I hope the Mountie Hazel finds for Maureen does not look seedy and greasy or even smelly from his horse!!!
Hazel have a wonderful holiday enjoy every minute of it.
Sheila enjoy your time at the hairdressers, have a lovely day.
Well my latte was lovely as always, help your selves to the lemon drizzle cake I have left for you all, yes Sandra you can have two slices as it is your favourite but don't make any crumbs or Patricia will be after you!
My money is in the pot and my hugs and cuddles are over in the corner just help yourselves there are plenty more.
Will try and pop in later.
    With love

But seeing how it's early here and I don't want to disturb the other guess by unpacking the cases of the things we will need for the 3 days here in will lie quietly in my double bed - yes the luxury of two double beds. We have a 6ft be at home but this is even better. Folk n the room above I am sure there most be about 10 sounded like that at 10 pm last night, granted they didn't know we were sleeping. We crashed out at around 5 I think and got woken up by them but next it was 4 am we have had 11 hours sleep, I think we were tired.
No we didn't stop at Iceland, shop or island. First stop was Calgary. Flight does go on to Vancouver another 1 hour.
Not sure what we will do this morning we will see what the weather is like.
Enjoyed my tea needed it. Money in the pot. Will check in later to see what going on. Yes I know we are on holiday but sitting having a cup of tea and laugh with friends is part of it. We both enjoy just having time to chill and I know he will be likely catching up on the world news any way. Hazel x

    1. Hi Hazel,
So lovely of you to pop in, especially as it's so early in the morning!
How frustrating it be woken up, mind you that's the downside of Hotels,
I hope that the Sun is shining for you today, I presume you will be having a 'quiet' day today, to let your bodies adjust! Did you get through Customs alright, I have seen a programme on Canada's Border control and they are quite strict, I hope you weren't smuggling any fruit!
I look forward to your next visit, relax and enjoy,
      Love and hugs

    2. Thought I'd pop in before we head off for the day, straight through customs, well got asked what we were over here for, who we were meeting or staying with, kept mouth shut as I dont think they have a sense of humour at times. Could have told her I was over getting a Mountie for Maureen!!., Did think we had gone to Germany or Bravia as the breakfast room was called the Bravian room. Any way off out for the day. Hazel x

Just love the card that Sue made for you yesterday. The Ivy looked lovely didn't it. We certainly put the world to rights didn't we.
Happy Birthday to you Sam. I hope you have a wonderful day.
Hope you have a fabulous holiday in Canada Hazel. It was so funny when we were in Jasper. We were waiting to crossat the side of the road, as a car was coming up to the road junction. Well it stopped, it waited, we waited and wondered what the problem. Pete went to ask if he could help. He said he didn't have a problem, but would we cross the road, which we did. We later found out that cars on the road have to give way if pedestrians are waiting to cross the road. Apparently it's against the law not to. Obviously this doesn't happen in big cities.

  18. Afternoon everyone, sorry for being in a bit of a hurry earlier, but shopping is now done, lunch is past, and I can do what I want now.
Sam have a really lovely birthday, it is one place I have always wanted to visit.
Sandra, your card from Sue is gorgeous, you really have a lot of friends on this blog, so keep your chin up young lady and just enjoy our company.
Regarding the Mounties, I think they only wear their red jackets and hats on special occasions, we once watched a programme on tv regarding the police in Canada and they were dressed like our police officers (shame).
Well tea and scone finished will get on with a card for my sisters 60th birthday on Tuesday and my sons wedding anniversary on Thursday.

  19. Ladies, I have just had a laugh to myself, I have Create and Craft on in the Background, I just caught a glimpse of Nigel wearing a German soldier hat ( I think he is supposed to be cabin crew as it's a club class event)!
Anyway he just introduced Mel with the Scan & cut, he introduced her as being straight and to the point and says what she truly feels about products, what makes me laugh is I have seen her selling Cricut machine, they were (at the time) the future of crafting, throw out all your punches, it would cost you thousands to have the equivalent punches to the get the same options as the machine etc etc etc, I then saw her on a Martha Stewart show selling punches, saying that they were THE tool, so much better than die cutting macine, so much cheaper, so versatile etc bla bla bla, her Cricut trimmer was the only one she would ever use, nothing comes close, then it was a Martha Stewart one and now it's something completely different, today we are back to get rid of dies this machine has thousands of options, dies can only cut one size, you can't enlarge a punch bla bla bla!
To me that is not integrity, it's not saying it like it is or telling the truth, it's being a sales person, very fickle!
I quite like Mel as a person, but feel a bit let down by the sales, ( as the owner of a £299 Cricut, sat in the cupboard gathering dust)! It was the future, but three years ago! Haha

  20. Hi everyone, Stopping in for a quick lunch and see who is in visiting.
Sue, this is a beautiful card, my first thought when I saw it and saw Sue, was that Ms. Wilson was sending our lovely Sandra a card, but then saw it was from our own kind and talented Sue.
Sam, if you can tear yourself away from cocktails at the pool bar and visit us mere mortals, the Happy Birthday. Enjoy yourself, but lease don't send too many postcards, we will all be jealous.
Pat, great news about Pete. Just go now and enjoy your holiday, that will help too.
Right I will get back to work now. If I can stay awake tonight I will look in later, I was very late last night, but I had nodded off for a time after dinner. That's not like me at all. Honestly.

You feel free to laugh! I have to live in what is a rabbit obsessed home at the moment! Under the field opposite our house, thanks to a gentle April climate rabbits have bred in abundance! Alastair can, just about, cope with them on the front lawn but some have ventured through the gates!! He has visions of a multi storey warren under our back lawn!
The tactics he is using kind of remind me of Dad's Army!!

Sandra, how are your little lambs, and I mean the sheep sort, not your children!! I hope you are in good spirits today and are happier.
Cheryl, I met a good friend for lunch today and she has just become a grandmother. Her daughter came with the baby Charlotte, as a surprise and she is adorable. 6 weeks old but only weighs 6lbs something now (she was 5lb something when born). Well Rachel was 8lb 3oz and her daughters were both nearly 9 lb, so I am not used to very small babies. She was a bit grizzly, but as soon as I held her she sighed and went to sleep - oh how chuffed was I? If only mine had done that ha ha. There are only 3 generations in my family, but 4 in my brother's as he is a great grandfather.
Well, that's enough waffling, I wonder what Sam is doing now, probably being waited on hand and foot.

I have to agree with you SANDRA re C&C and Mel H I must be the only person in the world that ret'd a ScannCut! I ruined a huge amount of card - sticking to the mat I kept getting white shadows down one edge if a cut printed image To be honest I like the bevelled edge a die cut gives and at the time I thought I wouldn't use it enough to warrant the expense I might consider one if they brought out an A4 one
There were some other mentions I was going to make but the goldfish brain has forgotten it all!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SAM. I hope you are having a wonderful time and that youn are being spoilt rotten on this special birthday : ))
I did have a shock when I saw the card that I had made for Sandra staring back at me! Thank you my lovely for your kind words, and to everyone else too. I jut wanted to show you rather than just tell you that your friendship means so much to me and that I am here for you through thick and thin, happy and sad times...in other words you 'aint getting rid of me : ))
Hazel, I am glad that you have arrived in Canada safely. I hope you have more luck finding a Mountie than my Mum did. It took her 5 visits to her cousin to see one in full uniform! Once they even went to the "Head Office", (can't think what it is called at the moment) they passed lots of coaches and horse boxes heading the other way on the long driveway only to find that all of the Mounties had just left on a tour the other end of Canada! She finally got to see them last year and got to chat for about 20 mins and had pictures taken with a Mountie and his horse after her cousins husband secretly went and had a word with them : ) I do hope you are as lucky, and managed to smuggle one back without having to pay excess luggage fees : )
Must fly now, it's one of those days, got a Scouting meeting to go to.
    Take care everyone. xx

Got my haircut this afternoon, feel human again. I have very thick hair (as well as thick head) trying to get a good hairdresser who can deal with it is very difficult. I like to wear my hair short, it's much easier, shower and towel dry, run my hands through it ... job done. Also got her to tidy my eyebrows, they are very fair (ok white if I am honest) I get them tinted but she did it have time to do that today. Will just have to carry on with the pencil. She did actually suggest Tatooing them, not sure on that one.
