Subtle shades Sunday

Good Sunday Morning Ladies,
Todays card is made using a very subtle shade of aqua, its one of Anne Marie Designs new colours,
It is a beautiful colour, its just not showing up on here too well.
I pierced around the edge of a piece of white card that measured approximately  7x 7 ins, I then used the Spellbinders Grand squares dies to cut a Matt of the 'aqua' card and mounted it on foam tape and stuck it onto the pierced background that had a small matt of aqua card behind it and then stuck onto
a white card blank measuring approx. 7.25 ins x 7.25 ins.
I then cut the Ornate Pierced Square Dies from the Noble range by Creative Expressions, I used the outside edge, the decorative insert and the inside edge to cut the first matt, I then use the middle decorative centre piece and its cutting edge for the centre piece, I put mounting foam (cut into very thin strips) under the outer die and a big piece under the centre square and mounted both of these onto the aqua card. I then stamped my sentiment onto a piece of the aqua card and cut it out using the very centre square of the die set.
I added aqua coloured pearls to the white card and white adhesive pearls to the aqua card, these dies have really good 'designated spots' to put the pearls on!  I then made a small arrangement of flowers to put in the top right hand corner of the card, using matching aqua & white roses.  In the opposite corner I tied a bow using aqua seam binding and popped it on a piece of white tulle with a couple of pearl stringy bits for a bit of movement, I popped another aqua rose and a couple of leaves on the centre of the bow.  I finished with a couple of complimentary coloured stick pins.

I hope you like the card and I look forward as always to reading your comments.
I hope that all of you Mummy's out there have a lovely day. For those of you that are missing your mummy's my thoughts and prayers go out to you, I know you will be remembering what amazing times you shared with your mum, on this very special day.
Lots of love and Hugs

  1. Hi Sandra and all in the Cafe today. As my life seems to have gone a bit mad at the moment regarding following yours and Sue's blog I am not going to read yesterdays comments before commenting today or something will happen to stop me!
I wish all of you Mums a very happy Mothers Day, and I am sending special hugs to those who's Mums are no longer with us.
Cheryl, your card on Friday was beautiful, in particular I loved the colours, so pretty : )
Yesterday's Mixed Craft's showcased just how clever you are at not just card making!
Janet, I am itching to find out whether the wonderful knitted cuddlies are hot waterbottle covers or PJ cases (that's what I think they are). They are great fun. I love the monsters 3 eyes and the little bow is a lovely touch on the pig, you clever thing : )
The star storage box is beautiful Saba. You must be very patient to get them so perfectly constructed, I love it : )
Maureen, I love your notebook, such beautiful colours. Now this is mixed media that I enjoy. I am looking forward to seeing just how you created this little beauty : )
Margaret, what a gorgeous bag. You have such a talent with putting those lovely fabrics together. One of my dreams is to make a patchwork bedspread. If I ever get around to it I will have to pick your brains, if you don't mind : )
I bet they all sell like hot cakes (if , of course, you do sell your lovely crafting goodies : )
Right, I am off to have a quick catch up on Sue's blog then will be back to read to find out what has been happening here over the last couple of days. I will have my usual tea with croissants and raspberry jam I think. Have a lovely day everyone. Be back in a while. Take care.

  2. Good morning Sandra, and all who pop in to this fantastic but nuttie coffee shop!!! Happy Mothers Day to all.
Sandra your card is stunning and gorgeous, love that Anna-Marie colour of card, I am going to order more card from them, but at this moment I am trying to be good and not spend anymore on craft stuff, very hard I must admitt. Again your design is lovely and as usual your flower arrangement and bow is perfect.
I have got every thing switched on and I have helped myself to a tea and a crumpet, money in the pot.
I think it will be a quiet day here, as I meet up with Tammy and little Andrew for a cup of tea and a cake, and Chris, Ang and the girls had called in while I was out. Gillian and Andrew are busy decorating their front room, so I can't see them coming. A quiet day will suit me fine. I have plenty to do, like finishing off the extra evening invites!!!
Steph I hope your are doing ok and new meds are settling down and not causing you problems.
Pat, I know you have to move about but please don't over do it.
Brenda, how's your arm, again you be careful with how much you are using it! Did you send that die back?
Sam, I hope you are ok missing you and Norah commenting.
To everyone else I have put loads of ((((((hugs)))))) in the basket.
Will be back later. Hazel x

    2. Hi Hazel. Arm still giving me gyp and it is getting depressing not being able to do much. I haven't sent the die back yet because I was hoping to try it out again when I went to craft club yesterday afternoon only I found out at the last moment it was cancelled and was Friday afternoon instead and I already had an appointment at the Optician. Not being able to drive is a nuisance as I could then ask one of the ladies at the craft group to try it for me. Think I will give it another try and if still not working will email Icon and see what they advise.

    3. Spoke to Adrian at my craft shop, he was saying to try embossing it first then cut, Sue herself had told him to do that when he returned a faulty die. Granted as he said it still didn't cut, and Sue had to agree it was faulty. I think you should just sent it back. Don't go hurting your arm any more than it hurts. Sorry your class was cancelled. 4. Thanks for your reply Hazel. Will see if I can do that and then send the results with the die.

  5. A very good morning to all that visit our stupendous Coffee Shop on this most wonderful day of Mothering Sunday. May your day be filled with all that you desire. For those of you who have lost their Mother, I send you warm fuzzy (((hugs))) to comfort you.

Sandra, I absolutely adore your card. Aqua is a very calming restful colour and I think it showcases the dies you have used to perfection. Your cluster of flowers are a brilliant touch. I am always a bit nervous of putting too many flowers on my cards, but yours is an idea I might filch, if that is agreeable to you?
I'm off for a shower now, I have my parents coming down from Bristol for our Mother's Day meal. It was Dad's birthday on Friday and we had a bit of a scare as we couldn't contact him at all to wish him birthday greetings. I know we are a very large family but he couldn't have been on the phone ALL day. Yesterday morning the panic really set as my son Robin still couldn't get through. Dad only uses his mobile for emergencies, so that is set for voice mail only. I finally got hold of their local Police station who very kindly sent round a CPO to make sure nothing untoward had happened. Dad had not put the phone back in its cradle properly and as he is getting very deaf (refuses to wear his hearing aids as he thinks they are ugly) and they are both now so frail, he didn't hear the phone alarm in his office upsatairs. Mum just thought we were all going to ring later so had no reason to check the phone. She rang to say thank you for sending the Police round, she felt like a naughty child. I just explained that ever since the Police came to tell me that Pete wouldn't be coming home from work, panic & anxiety sets in if I can't reach them on the phone. Big sighs of relief all round.
Right, shower now then which will give me a couple of hours to do some more craft tidying.

    1. Hi Cheryl,
You must have been worried sick about your dad! I know exactly how you feel, my mum lives about 130 miles away, she is also deaf, so sometimes she doesn't hear the phone, my goodness there have been days where I have felt so helpless!
It's lovely that the police stepped up, that kind of duty is like the old fashioned kind of policing! I bet your mum and dad wondered what all the fuss was about! Haha
I hope you enjoy your day with them,
      Love and hugs

    2. Hi Sandra,
Yes the police were marvellous, they totally understood why I was so concerned, and Mum & Dad couldn't understand all the fuss. Dad had been speaking to one of these so called Government Initiative cold callers and he believes THEY didn't hang up properly. But he didn't check his phone til the police officer came. Honestly, the older my parents are getting the younger they are behaving! Reverse childhood methinks.
Anyway we've had a lovely day together and they've gone home happy peoples. I hope your day was as good as mine.

As Hazel has said It's going to be a quiet day here too and I also add my thoughts to Hazel's greetings.
I have to say a very big Thank You to all for your lovely thoughts and comments yesterday. They meant so much. It's just wonderful having such caring and supportive Friends as this 'nutty' cafe has and that's all down to our lovely lady Sandra.
Anyway enough said off to raise himself and so the quiet start to the day has ended!! lol. Hope to see you later. Also hoping Steph and Norah may pop in sometime today.

  13. Good Morning Sandra,
Happy Mothering Sunday to everyone who is a mum, those who still have a mum and to each of us who has only precious memories let them be happy ones today.
Of course it's not Mothering Sunday here so the church service this morning was still a bit doomy and gloomy. Will be so glad when lent is over and we can flowers back in church and sing some happy hymns. We had forty days and forty nights, the gloomiest hymn in the whole world. Oh well maybe there will be some happy clappy ones on songs of praise tonight.
Sandra, your card is gorgeous. It reminded me of a Marissa Job card and I love her style. I love the A.M. Card stock, such gentle colours. Must get some.
Your bouquet of flowers is stunning, both in its arrangement and colour. Can I ask how you made the beautiful central flower?
The sky here is a lovely shade of dark grey so with any luck my OH won't be wanting to go for a bicycle ride. Do hope the sun doesn't break through, in fact I hope it chucks it down later!!
I'll just settle down now with my usual pot of tea, a crumpet and the Sunday papers. How thoughtful of you to get them in Sandra.

    1. Myra,
They are lovely sentiments for Mother's Day, it's true, we miss them so much because they were incredibly kind and loving towards us. My overwhelming feeling is of relief because 6 months before my mother died I had the wit to tell her that I loved her. I had never said it before, although I would go to sit on her knee for cuddles until I was about 14 (I was very small and thin - suffering badly from TB but nobody knew yet). Anyway, I never thought to tell her how I felt until I was in my 30's and it's such a consolation to me now that I did. If she had died and I had never told her, I would have a big empty hurt in my heart.

    2. I think that was rather how we were Maureen! I loved my Mum dearly but I probably only told her so a few times. I did in cards etc. but it's not the same. She knew I loved her though because she would tell people , Myra got this for me - she knew it would help me! Sometimes actions speak as loudly if not louder than words.
Your Mum and my Mum knew we loved them and they passed on a legacy. We have to carry on and enjoy our children and grandchildren!
Oh dear - now I've been on a soapbox again.

The "do" is on until 9 pm tonight!!! No way said I, methinks I will need to get home to have a nice cup of coffee in Sandra's coffee shop (nothing to eat thanks, I'm stuffed) and put my feet up. Must fish all the crumbs from my DD's - as Patricia says, "what's wrong with DD?" Whenever I eat out, I always make sure I drop something down my neckline to have for my supper later !!!!!
Maria, I do hope you are feeling better, what are IB, DB and SM?
Littlelamb - Brenda, watch your wrist. I know it's tempting to try to craft but please be careful. Have you started your physio yet?
Pat - hope you are getting around better. Are you having to sleep on your back. That was the worst thing for George, he just couldn't get comfortable, although when he was lying on top of me on the escalator it didn't seem to bother him then!!
Saba - dear - I think you may find yourself arrested if you don't pack anything other than knickers and a toothbrush. Please, at least, put a few packs of Tena Ladies in your case and a Trench coat, but not one with a split up the back - Oh that reminds me of the time in the office........... NO will leave that one for another day!
Michele - thinking of you and your husband - safe journey for him and good luck for tomorrow.
Mrs B, I'm getting another coffee and will get a cuppa for you, hurry up before we lose the table. Sandra, money's in the pot.
Cheryl, I'm so pleased your parents were OK. If I had a penny for every time I got a call from neighbour about mam after dad died, I'd be rich. I'd dash over at all times of day and night, only to find everything was all right. But I'd rather that than not bother and she could have been lying there, needing help.
Steph - hope you are well.
    Jess - enjoy your scrapbooking.
Lynda - hope you had a good day and lots of Harry Cuddles. Don't take your French Sticks with you, the crumbs get everywhere, although - Supper time calls!!!
Well ladies, after all that, I couldn't possibly tell you the Nun's story but I'll share that I got a lovely handbag and scarf from Rachel for Mother's Day, and the card is just me - a housewife ironing. It's one of my favourite pastimes. I just enjoy seeing the crumpled pile, and then all the freshly ironed clothes. She has taken photo's of me over the years ironing. In Cyprus, Malta, Devon, the Lakes - in fact anywhere that she has been on holiday with me. First thing I do at the hotel reception - ask for an ironing board and iron. I think I must be anally retentive!!!!!! lol
Love to all, it's been a lovely day even though Lizzie Shotton hasn't been with me (my nickname for her - don't ask.....that's another story!).
    Will pop in later.
SANDRA, I did comment on your beautiful card before I went to the Christening, we had some cakes very similar, truly we did.

    1. Hi Muriel,
Do you know, I a glad I'm not the only one that has a 'picnic' to look forward to at the end of each day, bra comes off, feast fit for a king!
Goodness me that's long hours for a christening ! It's usually the service and then a little 'Tea Party' afterwards or maybe a 'Soirée ' for Myra being posh and all!
I am afraid I don't understand your passion for ironing, I agree it's lovely to see that pile all neat &tidy, but boy I hate doing it! I am lucky though as Paul doesn't mind, but he is meticulous and takes ages! My passion is bleach, I love bleaching work tops, sinks, draining boards, bathrooms, anything that can be bleached will be !
Well I can smell the lamb roasting nicely, I will go and have a peek to see how everything else is going !
      See you later

  24. Hi Sandra and all the lovely ladies
It is quiet in here today except for Saba running aroun in her undies wondering what she can create with her toothbrush! I'm being spoilt today with breakfast in bed, lunch organised and now roast chicken being cooked for me! And I had another die to add to my collection and flowers. What a lovely day. I'm sure it will take me ages to clean the kitchen tomorrow but it's the thought that counts isn't it. Sending you all a hug for Mother's Day.
Sandra your card is gorgeous, that colour is so beautiful, will have to look at the spring range she had got, like I need more paper and card!!! And like Hazel more ribbon! Your flowers are so lovely and delicate. Is your bow tied with your new bow maker? I hope you haven't eaten too much chocolate today. I'm a dark chocolate person too and bournville is my all time favourite too. Do you remember when you used to get two bars in the wrapper? My mum used to buy it for a treat for us on shopping day, probably only once in a while because we didn't have money to splash about but I can still smell the chocolate as you peel off the gold foil. Yummy !
Now who's a dd today? As my sister would say, at least you won't break your nose if you fall over!
Cheryl I'm so glad your parents are ok , I'm sure the police get phone calls like that all the time and are very understanding! My dad used to go AWOL when my mum was in hospital. We would ring him when we knew he would be getting home to make sure he was ok and find out how mum was if we couldn't visit. One night my sister and I were phoning him for hours with no answer. It turned out the nurses had been going off duty as he left the small cottage hospital and they invited my dad and a couple go other gents they knew were going home to empty houses out for a curry with them. They were lovely nurses and used to make sure all the men got to know each other so they could look out for eachother. My dad drove one man too and from the hospital because he was relying on the bus. He phoned my dad in the middle of the night when his wife was taken poorly and the hospital called and dad drove him there so he could be with her.
Well I must go and make sure things are ok in the kitchen. Enjoy your evening ladies , I will try and pop back later. Take care

  25. Good afternoon everyone,
I hope you are all enjoying your day, I have had a trip out to a garden centre
That has a craft shop inside it and The Works, well in the Works the are selling some gorgeous reels of crocheted lace, all beautiful colours! They had packs of cameos too and gorgeous purple resin flowers, so worth a trip ladies!
We went into the craft shop it's Carole's but it's at the back end of the garden centre where all these fans and ducts and it's full of dust, but I did uncover some treasures, I found some black shiny mock croc card and some brown neither leather texture, perfect for handbags, so that made my day!
All in all a good day so far, got all my babies round table for dinner tonight!
Lucy is chasing my tail, she made me the most beautiful handmade card, so fab so she can have her own Designer day tomorrow!
    Love & hugs

  26. Myra. Just what I was thinking, but as my husband will tell you if folk don't eat them they wouldn't be here at all, it's life I am afraid to say. Anna and Beth will go round to the farm or when they are at freinds farms and feed the little lambs, then come home and tuck into roast lamb or chops. Country kids for you!!!
Maureen I to like ironing, and daughter Tammy had her own ironing business which is doing very well. Hate to see none ironed clothes on children and adults. When I went for my interview to become Anna's Nanny, she was only 12 weeks old lying in her bouncier chair thing, I took one look at this gorgeous little bundle and thought "we will soon have those ironed if I get the job". Had to sort the washing out too, can't stand whites that have gone grey? So you know what else I like using??? Yes bleach! Hazel x

  28. Coo eeee,
Just saw Maureen's you hoo and liked it, but didn't want to copy.
Can I just say, I don't wear those tiny little thongy thingys. I wear good old up to your belly button cotton knickers so I shall be plenty warm enough. And what's all that about taking your Bra off and getting seconds. Must be nice to have something to put in your bra. I don't bother, haven't got anything to put in one so the only thing I'm likely to bring home after a meal out would be the odd string of spaghetti hanging from my pointy things.
Now when it comes to ironing I run a mile. Loathe and detest it, but bleach, now that's my thing. And that dinky one with the ducks neck that you can squirt upwards and reach those not so easy to be reached places, and then there's the spray variety with all that lovely squirts foamy gorgeous limescale remover. Oh bliss in a bottle.
Myra So kind of you to be giving a soirée. I'll be down that M6 faster than you can say canapés. Will be be having blinis too. I'll pack an extra pair of my posh knickers.
We're having pork and dumplings tonight so best go and have a sneak peak.

West Midlands Airport would be a couple of hours from us in traffic! Without traffic it's a doddle. My younger son and his wife live in Leamington Spa so I could go there and travel. They are within 30mins of both airports. It is a lovely idea and I would do my very best to cooperate!

Mind you I love Newcastle - my son was so happy there at Uni.
Mind you when he lived in a house with three other lads - I really used Domestos by the bottle full! We only called to pick him up and I had to look at the kitchen and bathroom! Oh Oh! xx

  79. hi ladies
just thought a large cottage/ house thing would work better group wise, there are enough of us to cover catering etc, or we could shop for breakfast/lunch and do take away in the evening, I thought it might work out more affordable that way. But I guess if we decide where/when we could then look at accommodation\
Ideas. I guess as long as we could book enough rooms a hotel would work I think most of us would want to just sit and chat for midst of the time!\
    Just gad a bought ......\
    Maybe we could get Tena to sponsor our trip!!!!}

  80. Oh heck, Elgar was born in Worcester, but he stayed in Yorkshire. It's where he wrote land of hope and glory, so I think that makes him an honary Yorkshire man. I've seen his plaque on the wall of the midland bank in settle. Lovely place. Full of yorkshire people. Xxx

  82. Ok folks I am off to bed.
Can we all sleep on this suggestion and come up with real good suggestions for accommodation. I am sure if we got definite numbers soon we could get enough rooms. If a few were willing to share that could lessen the amount of rooms needed. I know some of you have never met before but a few of you have.
Hazel has looked at Holiday Inn Express, Birmingham. They have rooms and a meeting room. She has not got any prices but we can work on that.
The other thing would be WHEN??
    Good night and God Bless

  93. Oh my goodness, I pop out for a while to have the servants serve dinner and polish the silverware and it all descends into chaos!!! Lol everyone's been at the wine tonight (I bet Brenda's bottle didn't last five minutes in here!) . Like the sound of the get together. Now we've got tickets to see madonna in concert in December in Birmingham but that's too close to Christmas really. Can you imagine the chaos we would cause though, and all those grand calibers going as hand luggage on the planes! Sounds like a good plan. Maureen I think Dick3s death was on the back page of the news of the world next to the advert for male trusses! Funeral in Asda car park no flowers with Jerusalem being sung and mr salmond doing a reading. Have I got that right? Oh yes and why eye bleach is on special offer in Newcastle especially around students! Oh dear this confused southerner is off to bed now! Floor mopped, lights on low toilets restocked and a quick squirt of toilet duck round the bowl. I will leave the door on latch in case anyone is sleep walking and singing land of hope and glory whilst being served craft goodies by mr Selfridge !
Night night everyone sleep tight and see you in the morning!
    Love Diane xxxx

  94. Sandra and "ladies" thanks I feeling a bit better and managed to polish off a plate of Chinese and a few choccies this evening and then we watched a film about the enigma machine, at Bletchley park. Very good.
Yesterday you were talking about 'old money' and today I haven't got a clue Tihi
Something about Richard 3d ,you are all going to iron out his wrinkles, dosing him in bleech while looking for leftovers in your bra's ( got that problem too) Then we got Lynda wearing a French man and Saba cycling with her Geman OH. Hazel and Patricia wont us all to meet up in a cottage or hotel (probably more like we see each other at the loony bin) lol I thought we were going to Janet's but Birmingham sound good too , it's only up the road /rail as I'm not driving
Hope you all had a nice day with family. Will now go to bed too, busy morning so I'll see you later , left the key in it's usual place Hugs Maria xx

Ps, IB=Izzy bags, DB=Dangly bits (or a curtain person) SM= can't remember tihi
