Guest Designer Sophie

 Good Morning Ladies,
Funny I think I can feel a buzz of excitement in the air, can't think why!
Todays drawing has been created by my very talented baby girl Sophie, the baby of the family,
well by a whole 1 hour 20 mins1.
Sophie got up on Mothering Sunday feeling a little better than she had on Saturday when she spent virtually the whole day sleeping due to a horrible bug she had, she hadn't eaten anything properly since Thursday lunchtime bless her.  Any way she got up feeling better and then felt bad that she hadn't made me a card, so she photographed my hands, I had no idea why, and then disappeared for a couple of hours, she then came and presented me with this work of art, I was absolutely blown away,
she is so very talented, the details in the shading on the rose are mid blowing, I had goosebumps and a lump in my throat.  She is going to show it as part of her GCSE Art work so I will have to wait to have it mounted and framed, the piece of paper she used also has a crease down the centre which is frustrating, I have bought her a large Portfolio for her work so I don't know why we are folding
pieces like this!

She has made my hands look very youthful!
Again the shading is very accurate.
So I guess you can say I was a very proud Mummy this Mothering Sunday.
Money can't buy things like this or Lucy's card yesterday.
I only wish I had an ounce of her artistic Skills,
we aren't sure where she gets it from as neither Paul or myself can draw at all.
My dad could though and my brother and Paul's brother had a degree in Art, so maybe its in the Genes.

Well I am not sure how many of you got to hear of the exciting news yesterday, Sam I don't think you did or Steph, Barbie, Theresa or Tandy, or Brenda H (littlelamb), CraftySue to name but a few.
We have kind of decided on a Time and Venue for our Weekend Retreat!
Hazel found an amazing venue, that have offered us a great deal too.
The Hotel is Hillscourt Conference Centre, Birmingham.
I am so excited I can't sit still, the thought of getting to meet you amazing ladies that have made a huge difference to my life, well need I say more, I hope as many of you can come as possible.
Do we want to include crafting? I am sure that between those of us not flying we could bring enough crafting stuff for the 20 odd of us that would be going, I have 2 GC and a Cuttlebug for a start.
I am not to sure if we will be too busy talking.
I believe it will 228 sleeps, but I may be a little out, who's counting anyway!
All Suggestions Welcome,
Love and Hugs

  1. Good morning Sandra and all who call in today, oh Sandra what fantastic gifts you got from you two babies as you call them, funny how our children will always be that??? Lucy with her gorgeous card, and now Sophie and her work of art, she captured the moment, a true sign of an artist. Ok the paper has a crease down it, but how many famous artist have sketched something a bits of paper that were at hand to capture a moment??? Once it's framed you won't notice it.
I have set everything up, but won't stop I am in work early, I am off out to a music thing being put on by the Fife schools, Anna is taking part and has asked if I would like to come along. So I will pop in later for my cup of tea and see how many are coming to Birmingham. I could see last night a good few? Lots of sleeps counting any way. Hazel x

  2. Good morning Sandra and all you wonderful Coffee Shop ladies.
Hope you are well if not, there is a basket of hugs by the door. Please help yourself.
OMW!! Sandra that sketch is stunning and needs to be framed. I absolutely love the gentle tenderness of it. A very talented artist in our midst.
I am not stopping at the moment of to get the boys to school. Will be back for my cuppa soon.
I am very excited about our Craft Retreat I hardly slept last night. ..... when is it??? Oh! my goodness I wish it was this week. Hazel and I will be chatting about on our weekend away that will help.
Be good till I get back

  3. Hi Sandra. Your girls are so talented, Lucy's card was amazing (she's definitely been picking up tips from you) and Sophie's drawing is incredible.
Michele - I don't know whether you check back but I'm pleased that the worry about your hubby's job is over and I'm sorry to hear that your friend has passed. Take consolation from the fact that he is no longer in pain but did spend his last days with his wife and family. Sending big hugs.
Patricia - your Grandson has inherited your talents - his bag and heart are gorgeous.
I've loved reading about the proposed weekend but unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to make it. Things are just a bit too up in the air workwise and I would hate to commit and then have to back out. I'd rather say that if it turns out I can make the weekend and there is no space left at the hotel then I'll find a travel lodge or something nearby and join you for the day (if you think that would be ok?). I don't know if there'll be time for crafting, lots of laughter for sure though. I understand why you'd like to keep it to your blog Sandra, I feel like I know everyone here but if there were a lot of other people it could get awkward - they wouldn't get the "in" jokes and might be upset by our slightly smutty talk. Have you thought about inviting Sue though, just as a friend not to demonstrate or anything, but to see what she's started!!!
Well, I had a little accident on Saturday (no not THAT sort of accident) but it did involve a jar of pickled onions and resulted in a wrist strapped up to hopefully allow the damaged tendon to mend! I've already had a repair so don't have much movement anyway but have learnt to adapt, but no crafting for me for a while and typing left handed so apologies for any typos.
Need some advice: does anyone have a solution for a sticky embossing mat? I've tried washing it gently but it still rucks up the card when I put it through the GC. Also has anyone tried the Cut n Boss, I see that C&C have it as POW from Friday and due to the current hand situation have wondered whether to bite the bullet (family say they'd get it for me as a belated Mother's Day gift).
Well, I hope you all have fun planning the retreat. Sue xxx

PS. He was called Richard of York, not Richard of Leicester Car Park - bring him home!

    1. Hi Sue,
Sorry to hear about your poorly wrist, it must be really sore.
I was really hoping that you could me away with us, but I totally understand your reasons.
I did mention asking Sue last night. She will probably be in the USA but we'll ask nearer the time!
Sticky Matt ...use an anti static bag on it or put some talc on it!
I will catch up again later,
      Hugs

    2. Yes! Let's start a campaign, we didn't have the war of the roses for nothing. Do Leicester even have a flower!!
As to embossing mat, I read somewhere that you can clean natural rubber with a vinegar solution if it has sticky residue on it, but test a small area first Sue. Otherwise if it's just that your mat is clean but clinging to things I'd go for the talc, I use baby powder and the cards smell lovely.
Don't know about the cut n boss but if your wrist is stopping you crafting sounds like a good idea.
      Love and hugs

    3. I do know there have been a lot of problems with this machine Tina Eldridge at Drakes Field Cards got one from JGD Crafts and within a very short time i.e. a few hours it went wrong, but Janet at JGD Crafts was most helpful and got her a new one. I do know of someone else who got one from Crafters Companion it too went wrong and they were not at all helpful, she had such a struggle to get them to sort it out. Sorry to give bad news but better to know sooner rather than later.

    4. Hi I got one for Christmas. No problems at all with it. However, they allege you get an even cut including in the middle but you don't it's just like the GC in that regard. I didn't appreciate it until last week when doing loads of crafting and thought imagine turning the handle on the GC for all this lot!

    5. Hi Sue,
Sorry to hear about your accident but don't try to craft with a damaged wrist, or you'll damage it even more!!
I wash my embossing mat in soapy water (just a little soapy), rinse, let it dry or dry it with a towel and then cover it with talc. Shake off and it's find for quite a while, when I have to do it all over again. As Sandra says "the cards smell lovely!!!"

    6. The only machine that I have seen that gave an all over A4 cut was the Big Shot Plus, the new A4 + machine from sizzix! we watched the lady demo'ing it at Farnborough, it's longer than A4, we saw the embossing folder she had just finished and it was an all over deep crisp cut, she then ran a very intricate die through the machine by putting it in the centre of the cutting plate, it was heavy coated card stock too, the die cut came out perfectly, it hadn't missed any of the tiny pinpoint hole, I was sold there a do then!

  4. Hi Sandra. before I start reading yesterdays comments I have to say how beautiful Sophie' sketch is. What a talented young lady she is, and what a wonderful gift for you, more tissues were used by you I'm sure : )
Please may I have a big mug of my usual and some porridge with apples and bananas in as I am really hungry today, thank you. I hope that Maureen, (I think I am right in thinking that she is coming along) will be at our table so that we can chat about our retreat, (the hotel is only about 5 miles away from the Scout Camp we have used for the last 12 years for our Scout Group Family Camp so I know the main route, which is only just over an hour away and really easy so that is an added bonus : ) Anyway, I'm off to have a catch up. Take care my lovely. xx

Wow! Stunning Art work, your daughters are very talented, like you I cant draw but both my kids, sister & brothers can so I do guess its in the genes. You may be able to Iron the paper on the reverse under a tea towel to get rid of the crease, cool iron should do it.

Birmingham weekend sounds fabulous, do we have a date, cost yet?

Sandra-the sketch your daughter did is quite amazing , clearly very talented young girl.

Thank you all for your comments yesterday. Think today is going to be a difficult day at work but we still have a service to provide.

I'm quite jealous of your trip later in the year- can't wait to hear more about it.

Short stay but I'll try to pop back after work.

  7. Good morning, Sandra & ladies,
A quick visit this morning, i am off to the Beacon Centre for a 'Well Woman' pamper. It involves hair and make-up, diets & healthy eating etc. Will pop back to catch up on comments later.

My word, Sophie, what a talented artist you are!!! Your drawing of Mum's hands makes me cry. It is soooo beautiful, it shows (to me) how delicate your Mum's hands can be whilst also showing how strong she is. If I were the judge in a competition, your portrait would win, hands down! (No pun intended)
You thoroughly deserve to earn top marks in your exams. Well done,my dear.

  8. Good morning Sandra and lovely ladies,
What very talented girls you have. Sophie your sketch is beautiful, I believe hands are especially difficult to draw and you have drawn and shaded these like a true artist. And your rose looks real, I could almost smell it's perfume. What a wonderful gift you gave your mum, something to treasure for always. Don't forget to sign it after the exams.
I think today I will have the continental breakfast, some yogurt with fruit salad, a croissant with marmalade and a fresh Orange. Just practicing for "the trip".
Can't decide what to do today, craft or housework, huge decisions, just finish my breakfast and have a think about it.

Sam, hope you are feeling a bit better today.
    Norah, thinking of you too.
Loving hugs to all our ladies who are not feeling too well or in pain today.

Morning Everyone - Sandra oh what a talent Sophie has. Your 'babies' are just fantastic. There is no wonder you had a lump in your throat. Your gift just shouts 'professional Artist'. I hope she is going to carry this through to University and do something like an Art Degree.
The idea of a week-end retreat is really wonderful but I don't think I can make it. I'm sorry but we shall be in France (as usual). Oct/Nov is the time we have to do the pre-winter jobs and make sure that all is well for the coming months as when we go after Christmas it's too cold to do any outside jobs. I'm also sorry that we couldn't get an extension built fast enough to house everyone lol. Of course I'll take some indoor pics this time so you can all see what Marigny looks like.

Michele - I'm so sorry to read that your Friend has passed. At least he is now pain free and with others who have gone before. Of course he will always be with you all while ever you talk and think about him.
Sam - I hope you're feeling a little better today.
Norah - I hope your Iron level is rising and that you're feeling the benefit.

Well it's Knit and Natter day so I'll see what happens this afternoon. At least it's not my turn to demo. I shall take something to do just in case I have some time after making today's offering. I didn't get round to starting another bag yesterday as I picked up a piece of paper and decided to do something with it. It turned out to be a wasteful morning as the paper together with my effort 'to do something with it' finished up in the bin. Right I shall now sit and have my usual Latte and see who pops in. My hugs for everyone are in the basket by the door so please help yourselves. I'm hoping that by the week-end I shall be able to leave a few daffs as they're getting close to opening.

  11. Morning Sandra,
Oh Sophie you are a fantastic artist. This drawing of your hands Sandra and that amazing rose is just Wonderful ! Your girls are so artistic I'm sure is genetic however I lost out totally tihi My sister, niece and son they can all draw something.
You know what, I had the best sleep for ages tihi maybe all this talk about going away together and it sound perfect. Thanks Hazel for finding it and with half-board it's not bad at all. I saw some of you already got the bags packed, I guess Saba travelling light again hihi but just remember it will be Autumn again so it cold be cold.
Michele, I'm sad and happy for you. There's no way you could come with us to Birmingham Oct./Nov. time ?
    CraftySuetoo- take it easy !!
I'm out for the day, therefore a early-ish start for me lol but I'll see you all later, please no more accidents while I'm out

  12. Right I'm finally back, it has taken me this long to read all of the comments from the last 2 days!
Sandra, sorry it took so long to find out about our retreat but I didn't have my phone on until late evening as I forgot to turn it back on after the funeral. (I CRAFT!!!) Sorry to hear about Josh's Dad, I hope the op goes well, what a worrying time for them all.
Pat, I hope you really are taking things a bit easier, I know you have physio today, I hope it goes well. see you tomorrow :)
Sam, sorry to hear you haven't been well, I hope you are feeling better today.
Norah, you are in my thoughts, and I do hope the iron levels are on the up.
Michele, sorry to hear of your friends passing. May he rest in peace. What a relief to hear about your husbands job though. Yesterday must have been such a day of emotions for you, be gentle with yourself today.
CraftySuetoo, sorry to hear about your accident. Tendon damage is a real pain, in both senses of the word. I damaged tendons in my hand/wrist years ago and it still plays me up now at odd times! I agree with Sandra's tips about a sticky mat (now now ladies! : )) If that still doesn't help, although I think it will, then you could try DeSolvit Sticky Stuff remover (about £4). I find it is really good for all sorts of sticky problems, I always have a bottle in the house. It is really good at removing the adhesive from the back of new dies and at cleaning scissors etc. (also at removing chewing gum from hair as it is safe to use on skin).
Have a good day everyone, you never know I just might get back to having the time and energy to pop back in later on : ) Take care my lovely, see you in the morning. I wonder what we will be talking about? : ) xx

    1. Yes Sticky stuff Remover is very good and Lakeland Limited have it if you cannot find it anywhere. I do find that baby talc is very good on both the embossing mat and on the cutting board too as Saba has suggested. I also dust any new dies with talc using an old makeup brush to prevent the card from sticking in the die especially if they are intricate ones.

Sandra you have the most wonderful and talented daughter, it is not many girls that after being so ill would pull themselves out of bed and put so much love and effort into creating such a wonderful present. You are truly blessed with a wonderful and very thoughtful family who give you their love in such fantastic ways. Once the exams are over and she has her A* you will have something you can always treasure, but do get her to sign the picture.
Once again I have to say it Hazel you have done a wonderful job getting such a fantastic hotel and deal sorted so quickly thank you so much. Have you ever thought of running for Prime Minister, you would have the country sorted in a week and Europe in two weeks and no mistake!
Well thank you for that lovely coffee I shall call back later to see what is happening but please no bun fights today, it makes so many crumbs ladies.

  15. Hi Sandra
What a talent Sophie has, the shading is superb, and to do this from a photo of your hands as well. I do hope that she decides to do something with her talent. Now I wonder where they get their artistic talent from. Perhaps you could look in a mirror Sandra, that's where they get their talent from. The retreat sounds like a good idea as well. Hazel foe prime minister I'll second that motion. Perhaps we wouldn't be borrowing millions to give away to other countries for a start. Hope you feeling better. Good news about your husband job Michelle, but I'm sorry to hear that your friend passes away. Talcum Powder helps as well on a sticky tan mat if you don't have an anti static bag.

The retreat sounds fab but I couldn't commit at the moment as it is the last weekend of Tilly's half term and we usually go away. Not booked anything yet so not sure when we would be back. If I am around I could always drive down for the day with you all and drive back in the evening! So hopefully I will be able to do it. At the moment everything I have planned in advance has fallen apart at the last minute due to things beyond my control so I will let you know if I can make it nearer the time!

  18. Hello Sandra,
Oh my goodness, do I envy Sophie her talent? This is amazing and so beautiful, I'd have been in tears and soooo proud if I had received this. She is very, very talented. Is she going into some form of artistic employment when she finishes school and then Art College. I guess she'll be going to Art College or University to further her wonderful artistic talent.
Ha ha Margaret, I couldn't sleep last night either! Wondering what craft things I could take, a cuttlebug would be easier than a GC - but if we had bigger dies it wouldn't be any good. A glass mat might get smashed. All sorts of stupid things were going through my head (I'll not say brain - I don't have one). I wouldn't be able to take any clothes, I'd have to concentrate on the craft things, oh the thoughts were going around and around, like a washing machine. Got up this morning like a Zombie!
Cheryl, oh my dear, I was lying during the night thinking of our little soiree - as you do at about 3 a.m. - when I realised that I'd read that you were an OAP now and I hadn't wished you HAPPY BIRTHDAY, or sent a card, or anything, and even worse, I hadn't reacted on the blog when I'd read it. I'm so sorry about that AND I hadn't said how great it was that you felt able to get about a bit more. You will think I'm a right old ???!!!***. I'll make it up when we get to Birmingham. In fact we'll have a little conference about it!!
Steph, I hope you are feeling a bit better this morning.
Sam, I hope you are feeling a bit better this morning.
Norah, I hope you are all right.
    Saba, Prost

Sophie your sketch is absolutely gorgeous, The shading is perfect. You really have got a special talent, make it work for you. Ii this is what you were doing pre-GCSEs we can expect some truly outstanding samples by the time you get to A-level. Keep up the good work LOL.
Michelle, really pleased your husband has still got his job. How sad was that, on the same day you have good news, your friend passed away. He is least out of pain now and his wife hopefully can take comfort that they did manage to get married - even if it was what it was in the hospice. Thinking of you and sending love and prayers.
Hazel, what a star you are so working out a really suitable place to stay for everyone. I'm still waiting for daughter to confirm if it's that weekend she needs us or the previous one. Hopefully it will be the previous one.Fingers crossed and everything else.
Nora, how's that iron level? Hope you're working hard at it.

  22. Right ladies I am back home sooner than I thought. One 12 year old got the place the music festival was at totally wrong like 35 miles wrong!!! She sent me to Glenrothes 10 miles from Beth's school going south. Should have been 25 miles going west at Perth. Oh yes I went to Glenrothes when I got her text telling me she had got it wrong. So text back saying sorry can't come as one I would be late - I don't do late! Plus I hadnt a clue were the place was.
Anyway I have been on the phone and have spoken to Matthew the manager at the hotel, very helpful I have to say. If some of you can't come for the 2 days and you can come for the 1 you will still get the £70 per person per night deal. Teas and coffees with biscuits (2cups each ) will be £2.75 each. Other big plus we can all just pay on leaving, he can invoice each of us as we leave, so no deposit required, he just needs numbers? Now I fell this is perfect as on one is being responsible for collecting money. Patricia did say she was willing to do this, but problem solved. He will provide us with a corner with chairs if the bar lounge is full. Another plus point. Lovely man but I think he might call a halt at peeling the grapes??? Hazel x

  23. Oh Hazel,
What a boost for you to find you've got some spare time, expecting you to go to Australia again - honestly!! Come down here and help me with my housework, your sister has shamed me into doing a spot of cleaning (oh wash my mouth out with soap and water).
You've obviously found a star in Matthew (I see you are on first names terms with him - you hussy). We should all make a lovely "Thank you" card and send them to him as he is being so helpful. What do you think, or am I being stupid again?

What a gorgeous drawing 2 very talented girls, you must be very proud of both of them, Sandra. I have been thinking (which is unusual for me) I f I nip over to Birmingham from Lanzarote for a day, give Bill a football book to read, would he miss me.
You are all making me very jealous going away to meet each other wish I could come, but there will be another time. Better go and get some suitcases out as we leave a week tomorrow to Lanzarote for 4 weeks. I will sit with a coffee and some toast for 5 mins.

Wow! What a beautiful drawing! You do have a very talented daughter. The rose is just perfect and the hands, which I understand are extremely hard to get right, are beautiful and look so natural! Well done Sophie! Well done both Lucy and Sophie you both have made Mum a very happy lady and spread some joy our way too. Thank you ! Sending hugs!
I may need your help, Sophie - I sat down last night to make a bunny face on a pink paper cup - as you do! Well it finished up looking more like Dusty Bin from an old TV game show. I'm off to try again today . The ears are great and his Pom pom tail. Oh to have your talent! Just in case you are wondering WHY? I am going to put handles on the cups and fill them with little eggs as Easter Treat baskets. The children will make a better job than me, but I need a prototype!

  32. Good Afternoon Ladies,
I can't think what you are all so excited about!
I need to discuss seriously with you now about the whole Craft or Not Craft thing,
particularly if Hazels new pal Matty is offering us a room that we can craft in!
Who will be driving and who will be flying? Those of us that are driving can bring the bulkier/heavier craft items and sharp things I guess unless you ladies that are flying can pop your favourite scissors etc in your hold luggage, actually do you even have 'hold luggage' anymore?
As I said last night I can bring three die cutting machines, Sue and Pat have theirs too, I might be a good opportunity for having a go at different machines too, try before you buy.
I suggested to Hazel earlier, so I will sound you ladies out too, do you think its worth some of us approaching companies and saying the following...................

    .
''I am organising a 'Craft Retreat' for a group of 20 - 30 ladies, most of which are entering retirement and looking to start a new hobby in Paper Crafting''
I wonder if you would be able to supply us with some samples of your top quality products for the ladies to craft with whilst at the retreat to give them an idea of the quality they can expect from your products, so that they know where to come when the leave here and start to build up the products and tools they need to get the best results from their new hobby.''

What do you think? is it worth a try? give me a list of companies that it would be worth approaching.
Also Hazel said about bringing our own snacks, nibbles, sweets & choccies to nibble as we chat.. maybe a few sneaky bootles too, a new size of ''Izzy Bag'' required for that one I think.
    Anymore Ideas ???????
    love and excited hugs

  33. Good afternoon my fellow travellers
I have spent my day making a birthday card for my daughter. She will be 40 (I was a child bride) whilst I am at home, so need to bring it with me. Just need to make a box for it now and then I can relax and get all the other things done before I leave. Just the washing, changing bed linen, washing windows, cooking and freezing some meals, cleaning the fridge, bathroom, cooker etc.etc.etc. so not much to do really.
Sam, so sorry you are not feeling any better, we miss your early morning post, thinking of you and also of Sheila and Nikki on this sad day, I thought it was on Thursday as well and feel bad now that I didn't mention her earlier today. Please give her my love when you speak to her.
Hazel, I can't wait to meet your new friend Matthew, but what's all this about you chasing geese. You be careful my girl, they can be very naughty when they hiss and spit, don't want our holiday rep injured at this early stage.
Sounds like Muriel is chasing rabbits today, and Myra wants to kill the poor things, hope she hasn't got a gun.
Sandra, I think that sounds like a brilliant idea, loved the entering retirement and starting a new hobby bit. They will think we are a nice bunch of sweet little ladies, little do they know.
Need to go out now and buy some food for tonight, we were supposed to be going out for a meal but our friend has just cancelled which means I shall have to cook. Bother and double bother.

  34. Good afternoon Sandra and ladies.
Been busy, busy here. Got the boys out to school. Mum came in just before we were out the door so it was big hugs all round. We were out the door and mum was putting a "hot water bag" in her bed. That will have been her till about 3pm when she will be up for the boys coming in. She's Night Shift tonight again, John Day shift tomorrow, I will be along doing it all again in the morning. Then that's it for a while till their shifts clash again. Home to my house, shower, dressed the out with John. We did some shopping then went for Lunch ..... very nice too.
Now I will need to go get my case packed ...... no not for Birmingham .... Belfast with Hazel on Friday.
SANDRA:- Hazel and I can only bring Card & Paper that's about it. NO sharp knives, scissors, poky tools. Can't even bring glue if it is more than 100grms. We just bring Cabin Bags as Hold Luggage is very expensive. Hazel and I could travel the world with Cabin Bags ....... we don't but we could.
I think your idea of contacting Companies is a brilliant.
I am so excited that so many want to come. Once the rooms are booked that's it and we are ready for the occasion. If it all goes well, it could become an annual event.
Poured myself a cuppa and I think I will have a bit of cake. I am going to sit by the window and chat with these other excited ladies........is it nearly time for that Crafty Time??

  35. Hi Sandra and all the lovely ladies .
Where has today gone???? I can't believe it is after 5 and I haven't been in yet for a cuppa!
Sophie your picture of mums hands and the rose are beautiful, well done you are so talented. There is such a lot of work to do for GCSE art isn't there. My daughter took art, she had to photograph my hands but with water dripping off them. We had quite a laugh sat on the path with my husband pouring water over my hands and Emma photographing it to get the right affect. After 5 minutes we both realised we were sat in a big puddle of water! Emma took art at A level but it was the subject she dropped after a year, she didn't enjoy it as much at college, different teachers and different style. Now she draws and paints to relax. Keep up the good work and I'm sure you will go far with this talent.
Sandra you must be so proud of this picture it is beautiful, your daughters are very talented. Definitely a picture to frame when you get it back from school.
Sam sorry to hear you are still feeling poorly today, make sure you keep warm and drink pleanty of fluids (no not gin!). Xxx
Sheila and Nikki thinking of you both today. Xxx
It's been such a beautiful day here, Janet our daffodils are just about to open too. We had one out at new year and the rest follow on a bit later. There are banks of dafs along the road to make the verges pretty and I'm always surprised some enterprising soul doesn't pick them all and sell them off on Mother's Day! They do make you smile when you see them don't they.
Well ladies I will try to pop back later and see what mischief you are all getting up to ! Might go for a walk in a minute because it is still light and sunny.

  45. SANDRA:- please stop beating yourself about, this is great place to be. You have done nothing wrong.
During bad weather people look for things to fill their spare time, they can't get out and about. They tend to sit at the computer or sit with their IPads.
Once the better weather comes in they have things to keep them busy. ie:- their gardens even just getting out and about. I tend to "hibernate" in the winter and it's what I do so I am talking from experience. I am finding I don't have so much free time during the day just now. I don't go out to work but I am being busy doing things that should have been done. Clearing out wardrobes, drawers, washing down Kitchen Unit etc:
So please relax they will soon find they are missing the buzz and will be back.
I for one and really glad I found the Coffee Shop.
You will notice I might be missing during the day in the weeks to come. However I will still be popping in now and again to see what everyone is getting up to . I am a nosey so & so and don't want to miss out.

  49. Sandra, now you listen? YOU HAVE DONE NOTHING!!!. As the other have said some people find it hard to get time some weeks to sit and blog, plus I think Littlelamb was going to visit her friend for a few days, Theresa might not be able to type with her poorly arm, and if they have her on strong painkillers her head won't be in a good place, Norah I think is having a hard time of it, it's another roller coaster dip, Mother's Day will have caused this. She was very close to her mum and misses her terribly and yes it would be lovely if she could come. Patwyn I can't say, she came in a lot, she knows the door is open 24/7 so just wait and see. Now no more nonsence Young lady, you are the owner of this fantastic blog!!! Please do as Myra says you have done absolutely nothing wrong there could be 101 reasons why people are not popping in just now. I have noticed that Norah is missing from most if not all blogs at the moment, but she is still I think struggling to cope after loosing her mum and being low on iron as she is makes you very tired too so that could be two reasons why she is missing I just hope there is not a problem with her beloved Rory bless him.
When did you become a Grandma have I missed the big announcement Sandra? If so I am so sorry.

My Hubby will not fly or sail because, planes fall out of the sky and boats sink! so it is well over 40 years since I flew with a friend to Spain for the weekend and that was a story and a half. From what Steph said she is up to her eyes in it at the moment, Theresa is in so much pain her life must be very difficult for her and poor Norah just hasn't got any energy to spare. They will be back love when they are able.

    Now as to my
Government I am very pleased with the appointments so far. I think the minister for entertainment is still vacant if anyone feels up to it.
    Hugs Saba xxx

Wonder if that Mega bus goes from Northwich in Cheshire, must check. I think I will fly over a week or so earlier and stay with my daughter. That way I can just bring an overnight bag instead of my big empty suitcase.

    6. I live in Lancashire so around an hour north of Knutsford. My brother used to live in Solihull and I used to take my parents to Knutsford Services to meet him so that they could visit him. This was after Dad stopped driving. That's really why I thought of it as I stopped there a few times. Mind you I fully recognised the passengers! If you are prepared to risk being driven by me that's fine ! I am no boy racer!
I don't hold up the traffic either though! Xxx

  63. HI Ladies,
Just popped in for a visit, see you have all been very sensible and quiet over the last week.
Sandra, you have been showcasing some amazing items, especially the ones from your own daughters. Very talented girls. As to the crease in Sophie's drawing, iron the reverse very gently, warm iron, not steam though.
I saw you were worried about people not visiting recently, well, as for me, don't like Mother's day, lost mine 2 years ago, with her funeral day after Mother's day and I really felt it this year, plus, my work is seasonal, with long hours, and just starts now, so I have been a bit busy. Never have much crafting time now, most is during the winter, so I can't stop in for coffee every day. I will do a quick look as often as I can.
    Cheers all

What do you do for work Janice?
See you when we do, try not to work too hard!

  64. You know what, I've been soooooo good making Easter cards and Myra wants to pass a motion - as I said to the Nurse in the Sanatorium when she asked if I had, had a motion, I told her that I hadn't had any operations!!! (I was only 14). Talking about bus passes, I am in my 70's so I am well and truly certifiable, I mean certified, no I don't mean certified (although I should be), I mean entitled to a bus pass. Am I too old to go on this outing, do you think? Nobody thinks I'm as old as I am - honest. (But then they are all half blind and senile). No if I'm honest they usually think I'm older!!!
Hazel, darling, could you repeat the message you sent at 21.42 because I think you have a very bad case of the jumbled fingers.
Saba, I did ask if we could all do the knocking, rapping and prosting, but you didn't answer - is it because you are still out of your skull ? Prost!!!
Patricia and Hazel, I have been looking on the inter thingy but am easily confused so I was going to town to the Stagecoach people (if I'm lucky John Wayne will be there) and find out what, when, who and how much, and will let Margaret know when I have something definite, but your help would be much appreciated, bow, bow, and curtsy. By the way, plane flights are from £400 plus, argggggggg.

    1. Muriel, it has been decided that on no account shall anyone even think that word let alone say it. I am slowly drinking myself to death here and seeing as you lot only drink tea I think it is very unfair to see me off to an early grave. Now knocking we can do, not sure about rapping, don't you have to wear very baggy trousers which sag a lot at the crutch ( are we allowed to say crutch) and a baseball cap on backwards to do rapping. And pr...ting with a cup of tea doesn't seem right somehow. There is probably a law against it here and I don't want to get arrested when I come back. Did you enjoy Holby City?

    2. Muriel,
Have you tried googling cheap flights from Newcastle to Birmingham? There are two airports . Good gracious you could go halfway to the US for £400. Xxx
Alternative - can you get yourself to Knutsford Services? Xxx

    3. All right Saba, I won't say it any more as I can hear you liver groaning from here. Holby City? who watches Holby City, I think it was Myra, or was it Hazel, or was it you, or was it............zzzzzzzzzzzzz
Methinks I will take myself off to my chamber, if I have your permission to withdraw, your Majesty, bow, bow, grovel, grovel xxx

    4. Maureen train you need to wait till 12 weeks before you would get for about £84 return. Mega bus is a long 7 hr journey but is only £20 return. Do you have Tesco club card vouchers by any chance as for £15 of vouchers you can get a senior rail card, or its £30 to buy one but your train would come down to around £50 return on the train.
Margaret sorry mega bus doesn't seem to go from Carlisle, but again a rail card for the train would get you down for around £30. Maureen I told you I was having senior moments . Hazel

No, I'm not that stupid, don't worry Margaret, I am sensible, my warden says so lol.
