Pretty Pleats

Good Morning Ladies,

Just a quick post today, as yesterday's was a bit of an 'epic', mind you that's only because I like to give do each card justice, you all take the time and effort to make your cards so its only right that I give a little time explaining what you have used and how you have created your cards.  Anyway, I will keep this post as brief as possible.

I tried a new technique for this card, I saw a card some time ago and have been wanting to create it, so I started playing around with design of the card on Wednesday with Sue,  we both enjoyed having a go at the technique, however we did get ourselves into a 'hot mess' when we had a go at extending the design, so much so that we gave up! Not sure if it was the weather or 'Mother Nature' to blame for our sweat beaded brows!! Hahaha, one thing I will say is that whenever we all try and make something new together we have such a giggle!

I used Creative Expressions Stitched Lattice Frame dies (outer two) to make the base of My card and the white layer with the decorative section on, I also used CE Scalloped Lattice Buckle Bar die to create the pretty decorative section across the middle of my card, the top section was embossed using CE Heart Lattice Embossing Folder, to which I added a few tiny pearls. The decorative bottom section is the new technique that I tried, Pleating the paper in such a way that you get to see little hints of the pattern on the reverse of your double sided decorative paper, you can also do it with single sided paper (so that reverse didn't show).
I used paper from my Floral Pavilion paper pad, which worked really well with the pretty pink polka dot pattern on the reverse. The 'Happy Birthday' is a Britannia Die set from Joanna Sheen.

Now, would you like me to do a step by step tutorial on this technique for you to follow?  If so please just let me know in the comments below.

I hope you have a lovely weekend planned, I think that Paul and I may be driving down to Brixham on Saturday evening to visit his parents before we go on holiday.

Love and hugs to all of you,
Sandra

  1. Good Morning Everyone
We already have sunshine and it's quite warm so it looks as though we're in for a scorcher.

SANDRA YES PLEASE FOR A TUTORIAL and asap. I love the look of the technique and the papers you used are just gorgeous. Your card is so elegant and I would love one like this to drop on my doormat.
Take care driving (well Paul take care)and have a good time in Brixham.

Cannot believe it's Friday again and so off to market we go and it's our last one for a while which also means that it will be the last Pastry report for a while too but I'll see what we can do on the home baking front when I'm back in the UK next week.

This is very short for me as Jim has just driven up the back land which means breakfast has arrived and we want to get an early start. I'll see you all later. Have a good day Dear Friends. Hugs will be with you all very shortly. xxxx

  2. Morning Ladies

Beautiful card Sandra-I'd love a tutorial on this technique please.
Still got no crafting oomph at the moment. I got out of work late last night, went to Tesco to do the weekly shop so it was late when we ate. I ring my Dad on Thursday evenings so it was quite late by the time I could sit down and relax. I have a few special birthday cards to make so I really need to find some crafty inspiration!

But seriously my card line would not be the same without your card featuring!
Have a browse on pinterest Michele, I always something on there that I'd like to make, just tap in the name of a die, like that Spiral Flower die you bought, there were loads of cards using that die.

  3. Good morning Ladies,
Sandra, your card is an absolute stunner! It is so romantic and feminine I love all the layers ,colours , in fact everything about it and would love the tutorial please!
Phil ( the walking group lady) and I went on a recce yesterday 11am around a headland we hadn't explored , quite a varied terrain and sometimes exhausting , but we throughly enjoyed it and didn't get home until 5 pm , so I certainly made the most of getting out of the house for the day lol!
Tollie has been really good and Iain is becoming much more relaxed with him which is great, I'll send a photo to Sandra today.
How did your meal go Janet? I'll check back to yesterday's comments in case you let us know later last evening.
Well, family arrive late tonight ( we might possibly be in bed ) they think it could be midnight, ( too late for us to stay up ) .so will get everything ready for them today.
Love and hugs to all xoxo

    3. There's a small hill near here called"Tollie Pimple" so as he is small we thought it would suit either a boy or girl and Marsaili and Archie liked it so that was it !
I did laugh when Phil phoned to ask how I was this morning after our walk, she's older than me and built like a delicate wee bird, but I actually feel so much better for getting out and having some exercise, she does go walking everyday , that's her main hobby.
Thanks Val, I'll do my best ha ha! My daughter is so untidy in the kitchen she drives me to distraction , but she means well.

    1. Hi Sonia. It's so lovely to have happy family memories. I've never been to Brixham or that part of the Country. My childhood holidays were spent in North Wales and like you I still hold affection for the area.

    2. Good morning Sonia,
Thanks for lovely comments, we haven't been down to Paul's parents in Brixham for over 10 years, because of my disabilities, so we decided to give it a try, their house is built in such a way that there are 3 levels, the entrance, downstairs loo and office, then approx 5 small steps up to lounge, kitchen, dining room and lounge and then a split stair case (2 lots of 5 stairs) up to bed and bath rooms!
I absolutely love the area, Brixham is a pretty little town, like you I love the harbour, although I imagine a flat over slot machine arcade sounds a little noisey, although it all goes quiet in the evening and the harbour is such a pretty setting at night!
The plan is for me to try and either sit on my bottom and go up or totally weight bare on my crutches (something I sruggle with but will give it a go),
Paul suggested he gave me a 'fireman's carry' but I err think not!
It will be nice to spend time with Paul's parents though.
      Have a Lovely weekend,
      Hugs

    4. Val, I love Wales too, especially North. Spent a wonderful week a few years ago in Snowdonia, a picturesque cottage on Llyn Crafnant. It was everything I had imagined and when we drove up on the first day I actually cried when I saw it - it was beautiful :-)
Sandra, I would take Paul up on his offer of a firemans lift - could be fun ;-) Loved staying in Brixham, wasn't too noisy above the arcade, besides my Brothers and I spent quite a bit of time in there. Remember the beauty of the harbour at night and first thing in the morning when we used to go to the paper shop to get our comics. Oh happy memories:-) Have a lovely time.

  6. Hi Sandra and ladies,
lovely card Sandra and yes I would love to know how you made it so a tutorial would be great. Have a safe journey and a lovely visit to Brixham.
I'm not going to craft class today but will call in to return the dies I borrowed last week. I've been so good dieting these last few weeks and have lost 3 lb on the scales this morning so almost at target. So to celebrate I've off out for an Indian meal. Chicken Dansak has been on my mind for 3 weeks now and I've just got to taste it.
Well Lynn's died my hair roots this morning so must go and have a shower to wash it off.
    Have a lovely day everyone.

CONGRATULATIONS on your weight loss, you must be over the moon! The hard part is keeping it off, but I'm sure you will be fine!
What is your 'naughty treat' are you a chocolate girl or more of a savory treat person, my naughty treats are definitely savory, like salted cashews, pitta bread and hummous, nice crisps, or those M&S cheese twists, made with all butter, they just melt in your mouth and straight onto your hips!!
Enjoy your Chicken Dansak, will you have a Naan bread with it? Oh my that is another of my favourite foods, no shop bought Naan comes close to the real thing!
Oh my mouth is watering now!!
Hope you have a lovely weekend,

    2. Hi Sandra, I'm adicted to maltesers. Can easily go through a BOX a night so can't have them in the house. I can take or leave other chocolates but definitely not maltesers.
I'm going wil Lynn and Paul for an Indian and it's there only day off today so it's craft club or Indian meal and the meal has won today. I have already told Wendy!!! We usually get basmati rice and keema naan so we can all have some of each. As you say there's no comparison between fresh and shop bought naan. I'll probably put the 3lb back on this afternoon but it will be worth it. My mouth is watering as well now.
      Have a safe trip.

I'm feeling the effects of all our work yesterday, still have managed to make my challenge card.

Sandra your card is lovely, have seen this on Pinterest, wondered how it was done, is it the same way you make pleats when you sew a pleated garment? Tutorial please.

Hope you have a good trip to Brixham, hope the traffic is kind to you, used to go with the children when they were small, O/H quite often has meetings there.

  10. Hello Sandra and everyone,

Yes please Sandra, would love a tutorial on this card. It really is lovely, love the papers you have used. Enjoy your trip to Brixham, it's an area I love. Some years ago we were down there and I went into this little art gallery, I couldn't resist this small picture of a little boat sitting on the water. It now hangs in the lounge and everytime I look at it it reminds me of the area.
This journey shows how far you have moved on in your personal journey in life, I recall you saying just a year or so ago, that you could'nt visit them 'because' so they make the journey to you!!! I really hope you can cope with the stairs and I'm sure they are so looking forward to your visit. LOL

Pat, it lovely to see you back on the blog, hope all is well with you. xx

It's taken me since 11 o'clock to get here, John is working out in the garden and I keep getting called outside for my opinion, I need to get out anyway as the fence is finished next door and now I can put things back in place - at last.

Wishing everyone a good weekend, Love and hugs Brenda XXX

Had a busy morning with shopping and trying to finish CC. I hope you all have a good day. Lovely to see Pat back,do take it easy.

  16. Hi Sandra & everyone
Well we did go for our walk after all as stoped raining & out came the sun. We did a different place today at Bottony Bay & longer than the park we normally go too by time we got home my feet legs had had enough but pleased I managed it.I'm hoping the medication will help, I take.4 more tablets tomorrow. Then after that next week it's 6 tablets every Saturday for 3months. Terry thought he fixed my friends Todo machine but when I tried to cut a die it didn't cut & kept pushing the plates to the side. So we took it back to Margaret's & she just said too Terry throw it in the bin. Then she gave me all her Todo Dies. The majority of them hadn't even been opened. I felt sorry for her I did say she could have mine but said no as it was a present for my big birthday next year. So please don't any of you buy any of the crafters companions 8 x 8 dies as that was the die that broke her Todo machine they just wouldn't cut.
Tickle's goes home tomorrow don't know where that 3 weeks went. I will miss her she is so lovely & think Bambie will miss her as well especially as she will then be on her own so hope she will be ok.
SANDRA have a safe journey to Paul's parents are the girls going with you. Hope you manage the stairs. Would love to see Paul giving you a fire man's lift. How long does it take you Sandra. Hope Matt is feeling a lot better now.
Just going to send you picture of my new altered tag.
Have a good weekend everyone .
