Hummingbird card

Good Morning Ladies,

Thank you for your lovely comments on our garden photos on yesterday's blog.  Gardening is one thing that Paul and I both love, which makes it even more enjoyable.                                                                 It's a good job we took the photos on Sunday as we had a huge storm yesterday afternoon,  it started with continuous thunder, with no gaps between the rumbling, after about half an hour it got even darker and the wind picked up, there was an almighty crack of lightning and then even louder thunder, then the heavens opened and we have torrential rain and hail stones,  I don't even want to look at the flowers now!  I'm sure they'll all recover.

I made today's card yesterday,  using the free stamps that came the last magazine I reviewd.  I cut a 3 1/4 circle out of a piece of copier paper and placed that over a 5 x 5 inch piece of white card, I blended Scattered Straw Distress Oxide through the aperture blending out towards the centre, keeping that lighter, I removed the copier paper and placed the circle aperture over the piece I just blended,  I held the circle down and blended Peacock Feathers around the rest of the card, again keeping the centre a bit lighter,  to add definition to the corners I blended Uncharted Mariner around the corners and down the sides.  After drying the ink I stamped the circlular dot stamp over the Scattered straw area in the centre of the card and edged the sides of the card with Versamark ink and then added Gold Embossing powder and heat set.

Next I had to do a reverse stamp of the humming bird so that I could have two facing each other, I did this by stamping the bird using Versafine onyx black (as it was a bit wetter than my Versafine Clair) onto my Gelli plate, I then put a piece of card over the stamped image and lifted the reversed image, I quickly added clear embossing powder and heat set, this makes colouring with Distress Oxides easier,  otherwise the oxide dull the black ink.  I then stamped the other bird and coloured both with Abandoned Coral,  Fired Brick, Scattered Straw and Peacock Feathers Distress Oxides.  To finish the background I stamped one of the flowers  around the bottom half of the card. I finished the birds with a quick coat from a clear glitter pen (although it doesn't show up on camera).

To finish the card, I mounted the inked front piece onto a mat of orange card that matched the Abandoned Coral,  I edged this with a black pen to give a faux black mat, I then created a yellow card and after winding some black cotton around the top of the card I adhered everything to the card base, I stamped the sentiment onto the orange card and edged with gold embossing and then popped that onto a black mat and adhered it over the cotton.  The last job was to add the hummingbirds, I added foam tape to the backs of them and placed them either side of the circlular centre piece.

I hope that you all have a lovely day,

Love and hugs,

Sandra xxx

  2. Hi everyone
Wow Sandra this card is fabulous and very colourful. You did a lot of different techniques here. Yes your garden is so beautiful and a lot of work but if you love what you do than it's easier and I think it is a good day workout for Paul πŸ˜‰
Oh Brenda, what a thing to leave behind when you are moving out. Glad he could pick it up because I'm sure that nothing your daughter wants to keep πŸ€πŸ˜„
Again a day of full sunshine and blue sky here. We thought we were going to get the thunder but it must have gone around us. I had a day sitting and reading on our patio again and I noticed that the little birds ,mum and dad I guess was going back and forth for the little ones in our neighbours birdbox. I got a photo of them but it wasn't easy for they didn't sit still for long 😊. I hope that your day was equal nice and I must say Sonia that your photos are lovely wherever you are ? Hugs to you all, Maria xxx

  3. Beautiful card I love those hummingbirds and the idea of doing reverse stamping I certainly will try.
Had an appointment today at Saint Christopher’s Hospice it was just a general check up and everything went well.
My sister is going into Glenfield hospital in Leicester tomorrow for the operation, she should have had several weeks ago she thinks she’ll be in until the weekend, but I’m sure I’ll still be able to chat to her on a day-to-day basis.
Hope your day has been good. I’m still enjoying this lovely weather. When we returned home, mid afternoon I was out in the garden having my daily fix! I have only just come in because I really must think about doing something for dinner.
Take care everyone, enjoy your evening.
    love and hugs Brenda XXX

  4. Hi Sandra and all looking in. What a pretty card. I love the central circle stamp and the way you have coloured it in particular. I hope the garden isn’t too bashed around after the storm. We have been very lucky here, thank goodness xx
Another day trying to catch up on some more boring jobs that got put to the side while we were moving Pops house.
I hope you all had a good day. Take care. Love Sue xx

  5. Hello all, it’s been a lovely sunny day, but the wind is so chilly.
Managed to get the hanging baskets cleaned and new liners in ready to be planted with the begonias.
Your is very clever, never used jelly plate to stamp the reverse image.
Sorry I missed yesterday, your flowers are absolutely beautiful, you must have a very large garden, my clematis are way behind yours.
We have had so much rain over the last couple of nights, so that saves all the watering.
Not much else going on. Have a good night, Lilian

  6. Hi everyone
Apologies for not being in touch, it’s been a busy few weeks (no excuse really I know) Anyway we are now relaxing in our ‘happy’ place - Wales 🏴󠁧󠁒󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 The weather is beautiful, just a couple of showers yesterday and Sunday. We are staying in a new place, near to where we have stayed before - near Rhayader, Mid Wales. Having arrived on Sunday, I knew straight away this wouldn’t be the first and last time we stay here. It is absolutely stunning 😍 Barney is here with us too, and he’s living his best life 🐾😍 Home on Friday, and I know I’m going to miss everything about this beautiful place!
I love your card today, it’s stunning, as are previous cards posted by you all 😊 Unfortunately I’ve not had time to craft in the last few weeks, apart from a card I made for my managers daughter’s 21st birthday.
I hope you’re all keeping well and enjoying this beautiful weather.
    Sending hugs to you all
    Love Sonia xx
